Hi, first post here.

First, I'm a huge Dragon Quest fan and Ive began translating Dragon Quest Battle Road Victory for the Wii. Not sure if this is the place to post such a project here, but I have a few questions hackers might be able to anwser to help me progress.

First, the disc has files named like this :

awesomefile.arc.z

Some of them probably contain images I need to modify because a lot of the game's asset's text uses tpl files. Now I've already worked out all the monster names that were available in .tpl files and made images to each of them and replaced those Japanese .tpl files with the new ones, but apparently they still show up in japanese even though I modified them.

How do I access the example file above?

What type of de/compressor I need for those *.arc.z files?

So I didn't get an answer for my question, but found how to open them with Brawlbox. Yay!

Most of the games uses .tpl files for the text, especially anything menu and battle related. This is colossal work as I have to make images for each word, phrase and spell name used in combat and the info that the battles spit out too. H ere are a few screenshots :

My problem now is getting access to the text for the RPG part of the game. I can't find a way to access the .BSMG files at all, even with BMG Editor and Brawlbox. I'm leaving a sample file, maybe someone here will be able to find a way and help me? Otherwise this translation project might just die off.

File types I can't open are in the attached RAR file.

You might find luck at romhacking.net, they helped me.

Hello and good day, first I apologize for any rules I may break for posting on such an old thread but figured I'd post here instead of making a new thread.

I'm sad to see that your project has died...

over these last few weeks I stumbled upon all your threads after this game came up into a discussion I had with a friend. I seen your thread, read what you had found, then seen it ended up dieing cuz people abandoned helping you.

Then I decided "well, let's see what I can do" (just for fun) I started it as a fun little test and now after a week or 2 I think I'm committed to the menus. I've done a LOT of the menus already. It's just i have the issue you had where some edits don't show up in game after you edit them. For example I found yes and no but it won't show up or maybe it's the wrong img? Its the Same with those Rainbow screen logos in the top left. Not many so far but a few have not shown up after editing and I believe them to be the only tpl's of said images.

I also had someone show interest and they created a bmsg editor to help with the project. I'm not sure if this will ever reach 100% translation but so far its looking promising just as long as irl events let me continue working on it. and maybe if others jump in to help? Anyone reading and wanting to lend a hand feel free to @ me. I'll end with some screens of my edits and there's more than these screens. Most of the menu is navigatable in english

Any news on the translation?
Unfortunately there hasn't been much new progress. And the original OP has not responded to maybe help with those specific images I'm having trouble editing and having them show up ingame.
(I hope all is well with them).

I took a break from the project about a month ago or more after I finished editing pretty much all the images I found that I could replace and shows up, but there are still some that need translations/editing. The ones remaining are mainly just a few online friend match things. Then some that have been edited could use some polishing up.

The actual ingame text I haven't even touched that at all but have been provided a tool to do so. my personal plan was to finish all images first and then move onto the dialogue text or in hopes have someone else jump on board with the project to help tackle those translations while I worked on the images or had help figuring out why these certain ones won't show up.

something new that I did discover shortly before taking the break is that the text for the card finishers is actually embedded into the games video clip files and I myself wouldn't be able to edit something like that.

there is also still the possibility that one of the games .arc files (that can't be opened by any tool I've tried) could have more images to be edited but no way to tell besides what I can see in a HxD but I'm no programmer to even attempt an extraction etc.

So I guess to finish this long post off to answer simply, yea there were more translations/edits done since I posted that original message. I also tested and created a custom riivolution xml patch for what I have done so far that also works with wiimmfi, but currently I am stuck still like explained above and just decided to take a break.

I am still wanting to go back to it soon the projects not dead just yet. Just at a halt for now.

I'm designing my own entertainment cabinet for my man cave, to store all my systems, then I'm also designing a power supply/HDMI switcher so I can switch to whichever system I want, and power it also. Already picked up the cabinet board, but tinkering with my drawings before start

But yea, I have frogger arcade cabinet that I gutted and put a Pi4 then Pi5 into, but it never gets played much anymore, should sell it. Even when the kids come over, they don't want to play on it, just the xbox. TMNT and Simpson's arcade is still so fun on it, esp w 2 players.
