Homebrew Equivalent of Sockets API for 3DS?

Hi all, I've been interested in getting into homebrew development for the 3DS and wanted to try making some small projects to get acquainted. I was interested in trying to make a small chat client between a 3DS and a computer hosting a server using sockets API. How exactly would connecting to the server work from the 3DS client-side? From what I understand, development work is done in C although the 3DS architecture is obviously different from a normal Linux machine. Is there an equivalent of sockets API to use on 3DS? Could someone point me to some resources or documentation where I could read up on these kinds of topics?

BSD Socket API is largely supported. If you're porting compliant code you will likely need to tweak a few things, but it can do all the basics.

    @SylverReZ, atleast the 1999 versión of pico's school is avaliable (the difference between it, the 2006 versión and the 2016 versión is that the speed of the game depends of the speed of your computer and that it had the og soundtrack)

    @Xdqwerty, Nope. There are two download buttons on the same page, where you can download the original under a file called "bear.exe". "bear2.exe", however, is the updated game in a Flash projector. P.s. this was on the archived Pico page from 2000.

    Fun fact @SylverReZ: iirc one of the goals on the fnf Kickstarter stated that pico 2 would be finished but the Kickstarter didnt get enough money for that goal to be fullfiled
