This thread seems outdated, with Nintendo wfc gone and everything...
Not very helpful as with wiimmfi the only 2 games you have a good chance getting people to play with you are Mario Kart Wii and Super Smash Bros brawl. I'm sure this was very useful in 2009 though.

Yeah. Both on console and on Dolphin (on Dolphin you'll need a NAND from a real console though). Search for "Wiimmfi", that's the custom server Wiimm and me created.
