Tutorial  Updated

Exclusive Online play for banned members Network possible

Special thanks to @spacemeowx2 at https://github.com/spacemeowx2/switch-lan-play for the tool
and @mastertwin for the tutorial

this works on all firmwares, hacked or not hacked switch, Banned or not Banned switch. game updated prefered. Mainly useful to play in community public servers.

things you would need:
-https://www.github.com/spacemeowx2/switch-lan-play/releases

1. Edit Switch Internet settings
-set IP adress to static
-make up an IP address. your unique IP can be anything from 10.13.0.1 to 10.13.255.254 (Except 10.13.37.1 because its Gateway)
-input your made up IP address at the IP address section.
-Subnet Mask stays at 255.255.0.0
-Gateway stays at 10.13.37.001
-Configure DNS primary to manual. Configure DNS primary to 008.008.008.008
if you have a hacked console and are not banned yet, use 90 DNS to avoid telemetry. 90 DNS settings are "163.172.141.219" for primary and secondary DNS to "45.248.48.62"
-Save and that is it here.

2. Download software

3. Run Software
-Install winpcap fully
-double click on lan-play.exe and copy paste public server of your choice

available public servers:
35.236.10.223:11451

189.222.60.255:11451

-press enter. it will prompt you to enter your switch's LAN "interface".

Your interface will be the option containing your PCs IP address.
To find your PCs IP address, go to start on your PC and type in CMD. In CMD type: ipconfig
-you should get something like this

QutRhTG.png
You may get more than one adapters, but In most cases, computer's IP address would be found in the first one. This is the one that connects to the internet and is connected to the router. it will be in the IPv4 section.

TuSIwBP.png
In this case interface 5 has the same IP from earlier (computer's IP address). So 5 is the interface that must be chosen. Type 5 and press enter.

if youre having problems with this step you can try different interface numbers until the switch can later on connect to your PCs internet. Also, try resetting your computer and switch if problems persist. Its possible your PC needs a restart to fully instlall wincap

4. Connect internet on Console and verify connected to internet fully.

5. Run game. Head to online play. Highlight Wireless Option. Hold (L+R+LStick ) to enable LAN mode.

AFTER:

5. Join room or create room. Creating a new room helps people join your room if your hosting a match.

6. Enjoy Free Online play with friends/people around the world on the same server.

It's about time this scene did something worthwhile. I knew that waiting over a year to get a Switch would be worth it. Decent games are finally coming out, and now this. I know what I'm picking up for Black Friday.

@Don Jon Please update your tutorial (point 3) with info:
Winpcap will work with Wi-Fi only if your card supports promiscuous mode. Most likely our card is not supported so make sure PC with the client is connected via Ethernet cable (directly to the router or via hub/switch).

Also there is Linux based client so people can run it from their home servers/single board computers etc.

WinPcap works PC-side so your Switch can be on Wi-Fi.
If you mean wireless on PC, it's the same as with Xlink Kai - Win pcap will work with wi-fi only if your card supports promiscuous mode.
I am running it on Raspberry Pi and Rock64 (both clients and own server). As long as device with tunel client is connected through Ethernet (LAN cable) to the same router as your Switch (either LAN or WI-Fi) you are fine.
Yeah, i was talking about switch wireless, portable mode. Good it works on that, and even better that it works on a raspberry pi.

I wonder if we could make a switch side app that searches for, and tells the pc, which lan room we want to be in, instead of having to go to the pc every 15 minutes to search for a new room.

@StarGazerTom Sorry but I don't get you. What room are you talking about?

First of all someone has to set up own tunel server.
As per Switch (and server-side config) :
IP Address you can use 10.13.?.?
Subnet Mask 255.255.0.0
Gateway 10.13.37.1
Last 2 octets of IP address give you exposure to ~64K of IP addresses (64K of LAN people).

You just connect with your friend(s) with IP you agree on (make sure they are not duplicated) and play whatever game (and in-game room) you want.
Once you are connected - you just run in background on PC/daemon on Linux and forget that app exists.

yes, xlink Kai on the xbox 360 was used to tunnel games to play free without paying for xbox gold membership.

hmm after a quick google the xlink kai servers and matchmaking are all still operational.. so maybe it might be easy to merge this with Kai?

edit: quick youtube link -

This is more or less the same way Xlink works but it's not as simple. I have tried to reach them out already many times.
- Xlink team is not responsive neither on forums nor in chatbox nor in support email.
- Switch's MAC's first 6 digits (vendor and model) ranges have to be added to the Xlink's database.
Ball is totally on their side from some time already.

yeah I saw in the xlink kai forums Switch compatibility had been requested - I was just reseting my forum password there so I could link to this thread.. hopefully get some movement happening.

Maybe if we spam them, they will do something:

...I have even tried to convince them to add my MAC address to the PS2 Database (same as for Xbox One) so our Switches can be recognised by Xlink as Playstation 2 and we can test online play.
1 month later, no response at all.

It would be great, just make a simple homebrew, with simple parameters, that the 50-year-old housewife would be able to do, then we could be more players played on this network, than the one of nintendo, retroarch retrogaming nes multijoueur? Snes online? Etc...........................................................
Good news.
But whoever is not banned, has a risk of being banished?

with programs like this and xlink kai, who really would pay for Nintendo online or care about being banned........(like me )
I'm banned already.
Only thing I care is to play with friends.
This enables me to do so.
If there will be way also to spoof/tunnel local wireless mode, that will be awesome!

I agree with you, but I'm not banned, fw 5.01 sxos 1.9, and I'd like to play online, but if there's a risk of being banned, it's immediately less interesting.
1/ Banned your console loses its value when you resell it
2/ when a safe emunand is on the market, you can play on the nintendo network legally if you decide to pay
3/ in the opposite case of point number 2
You can play for free
Good news anyway

Hoards of cheaters flooding your server in 3, 2, 1...

if a community springs up around this like has done with xlink kai - then cheaters are reported and banned. Do you really want to be banned from any online at all after you're banned from Nintendo servers for running homebrew / backup software? Then sure.. be a dick and cheat - but be totally banned.
