Gaming fail on quests in ffta2

does anyone know that if you fail a quest in ffta2 if you get to redo it or how that works?

If you fail a main story line quest like the pearls in the deep one it takes you back to the menu so if you haven't saved in a while you get kinda screwed over.

my motto: save often. that way if you fail you can just reset anyway.
