Homebrew Game Idea: Super Mario Maker for Nintendo DS

Yet i was gone for a long time, but i am back

Anyway, recently i bought a DSi but i wanted an 3DS tho, although i wanted SMM on it tho

So, if anyone wants to do an game like SMM for DS, i would like it

There are definitely many ROM hacks for NSMB already, including the fantastic Newer SMB DS.

And someone has sort of recreated Mario Maker in SMW.


So I guess there's technically no reason this couldn't be done in NSMB DS, except that it would be an enormous amount of work and probably only of interest to a minimal number of people? I don't think even using the editor in MM 3DS has ever been particularly popular.

You'd be better off just ROM hacking the game yourself to create custom levels (Google for tutorials). SMM for DS would require a very large amount of work and I doubt anyone would do that. It is probably possible though, just not likely. Mario Maker is on the 3DS if you ever decided to buy one in the future.

I remember playing a Mario Maker-like homebrew. It was really limited and controls weren't good

Yes, I've seen a few different PC-based Mario Maker knockoffs at this point. I doubt any of them could be easily ported to the Nintendo DS, though.
