Hello I would like to play Ocarina of time and Majora's Mask on n64, in french and with the NTSC speed.
Yes I know, I could just play the version Zelda Collector on gamecube but there's some emulation issue mainly on Majora's Mask. And I haven't play those 2 games yet and I would like to try those in the right conditions.

As you can see on the attached screenshot of the majora mask file structure, there is a .n64 ROM but this is a US version.

I believe the translations are in the .tpl files but I don't know how I could inject them in the rom or during the game with a emulator.

Does somebody have an idea ?

Ok, I found how we can set the language in a n64 emulator.
First, all the translated file are directly in the .n64 file, just like the original PAL games. The TPL files are just pictures for the n64 gamecube's emulator.

The options of OOT and MM of the Zelda collector edition don't have the possibility to change the language. But, by chance, they read the same kind of save as the original PAL n64 game. So we can change the language by modifying the save:

  1. Load the rom in the emulator of your choice (I used Muppen via RMG) in order to generate the save file (Optional)
  2. Open the save file with an hex editor
  3. change the following value:
    • Ocarina Of Time: Go to offset 01 and set the value to:
      • 00 = English (default)
      • 01 = German
      • 02 = French
    • Majora's Mask: Got to offset 98305 (18001 in hexadecimal) and set the value to:
      • 01 = English (default)
      • 02 = German
      • 03 = French
      • 04 = Spanish
      • Warning: setting another value will mess up the interface of the file selection
  4. Launch the game
And voila !

Enjoy the game of your childhood with your native language at the correct speed !

I believe you could also use a save of the original n64 PAL release but I haven't tested it.

I rather enjoy a life of taking it easy. I haven't reached that life yet though.

@SylverReZ if you could find a v5 DS ML you would have the best of both worlds since the v5 units had the same backlight brightness levels as the DS Lite unlockable with flashme

A woman with no arms and no legs was sitting on a beach. A man comes along and the woman says, "I've never been hugged before." So the man feels bad and hugs her. She says "Well i've also never been kissed before." So he gives her a kiss on the cheek. She says "Well I've also never been fucked before." So the man picks her up, and throws her in the ocean and says "Now you're fucked."

anyways, we need to re-normalize physical media

if i didn't want my games to be permanent, then i'd rent them

Agreed, that why I try to buy all my games on disc, Xbox anyways. Switch games (which I pirate tbh) don't matter much, I stay offline 24/7 anyways.

@BakerMan - you can still "own" digital media, arguably easier and better than physical since you can make copies and backups, as much as you like.

    The issue is DRM

  • cearp @ cearp:
You can buy drm free games / music / ebooks, and if you keep backups of your data (like documents and family photos etc), then you shouldn't lose the game. but with a disk, your toddler could put it in the toaster and there goes your $60

    :rofl2:
  • cearp @ cearp:
still, I agree physical media is nice to have. just pointing out the issue is drm

i like physical media because it actually feels like you own it. thats why i plan on burning music to cds

It's nice to not have to have a lot of physical things though, saves space

@rqkaiju2, Physical media is a great source for archiving your data, none of that cloud storage shiz.
