How do you know from that output which version is required.
NSCB > 4: File Information > select your NSP/NSZ > 1: Get File List info > Required Firmware.

For example, this is Required Firmware of 1.0.1 (v65536) Hogwarts Legacy game update:
Required Firmware:
- RequiredSystemVersion: 1140850688 -> (17.0.0) doesn't care
- Encryption (keygeneration): 16 <= this
- Patchable to: 1140850688 -> (17.0.0) nevermind

Thank you for you explanation. It seems we can stay on 16.x.x for a while 🙂

Edit:
So the example with Mario Kart 8 from the last page that says

Required Firmware:
- RequiredSystemVersion: 1140850688 -> (17.0.0)
- Encryption (keygeneration): 4 -> (4.0.0 - 4.1.0)
- Patchable to: 268435456 -> (4.0.0)

Will that work on firmware 16.x.x out of the box or will we have to patch it to work on firmwares lower than 17?

No... the game that I'm installing REQUIRES online connectivity, this is why I'm trying to install it on SysMMC.
No it doesn’t. If you install through tinfoil it’s bugged. There is a ticket issue with newer titles and tinfoil doesn’t account for it. I am running the latest pokemon cafe update and I installed it through DBI. No online check

Also everyone, to clarify!

There is a DIFFERENCE between requiring 17 keys or the 17 SDK

If the game is built on a lower sdk but higher key you can patch it to whatever version you want. Case in point - the latest Mario Kart (final wave all dlc) is built on SDK 4.0 so I just created a super XCI and patched the FE requirement. Literally running on my SXOS fw11 boot as a bootable XCI

Now, if the game was BUILT on a higher SDK, you HAVE to run it on that minimum sdk version. No exceptions. As of date of this post, zero games are built using sdk 17. How long that would be, nobody knows but as of now it’s not required.

What is CONFUSING people is there is a recent bug introduced with some games like pokemon, quake 2, company of heroes…etc that when installed VIA tinfoil, they require an online check at boot. DBI takes care of this. Tinfoil 16 still has the bug.

Hope this clarifies.

Does the Hogwarts Legacy update really require 17.0.0? Has anyone tried playing it on 16.1.0?
Sadly for me doesn't work on 15.01 however like Kingdom come deliverance, expeditions mudrunner and other more recent games work fine despite also asking for a much higher FW :nayps3:

Ps: not that I like the game or care for it but wanted it to test OC specially GPU undervolting as the game looks like it has good visuals and might be a good one for testing OC...

Generally games that have been in developments longer would have lower SDK and lower firmware requirement, there are some games that came out after firmware 11.0.0 can be patched to run on firmware 11.0.0 and some can't.

This has nothing to do with FW version. There are some games that are FW and SDK 17 that straight up do not install correctly with tinfoil and do with DBI. It’s a tinfoil bug

And yes, tons of games came out after FW11 that can be patched no problem because they were not build with SDK 12 or later.

Please don't get confuse about SDK and firmware requirement for game, there is no game released so far with SDK 17.

Yeah no sh*& You even read my post? The entire point of this thread is that Tinfoil is STILL bugged when installing certain newer games and it requires DBI to install them. Please read the entire thread and replies before confusing the topic.

As of today, the highest SDK requirement is 15.3.2 for Princess Peach. We wont see FW17 games for another 6-10 months at least.

Still wrong since you said "There are some games that are FW and SDK 17 that straight up do not install correctly with tinfoil and do with DBI. "

Since no game currently out used sdk 17
