Hacking Gateway .sav files?

Hi, i wanted to ask if anybody knows why gateway creates .sav files for cia installed games and card 2 games? I thought those files where only created for card 1 games.
havent experimented yet with deleting them for cia games but nothing should happen since they should be useless.

It doesn't generate .sav files for cia games, only games played from the actual gateway card.

then i must have used some roms that i now have as cias. forgive my stupidity.
