Hardware gonna be buying a HP dc5800 for $5 what upgrades should I get?

My gut is if you can find a GTX 960 for cheaper to go with that. Clock rate hasn't changed much, but Instructions Per Cycle has. So, yea, it's unclear if going beyond that will net you very much if anything. Of course, it'd help if there were someone who had ran benchmarks instead of just going on gut feeling.

but the psu only is 240w and doesn't the 960 need extra power

i would not place windows 10 on that machine. the os alone is using almost half your ram ....

Sorry, you're right. The 1030 is actually lower spec the than 960 (and so is the 1050 Ti apparently). So, maybe that would the better fit. I found this: Bottleneck Calculator. No idea how accurate it is, but it might be useful to play around with.

Granted, but you can still get DDR2 relatively effortlessly on eBay as long as you have a bit of money should he want to upgrade

I actually use a 64-bit os because the ability to play newer titles such as grand theft auto V

Don't buy the 1030 then. Trust me, you'll be happier with at least a 1050, if not a 1050ti

I hate to bump my thread some more but has anyone found a way to overclock a 1333fsb cpu on a non overclockable motherboard? i wanna get closer to 3.0 ghz but my cpu runs at 2.66ghz its a q8400 if anyone cares
