Google is enabling Bluetooth support for the Stadia controller after the service ends

asddsadsadas.png

Even though Google Stadia is set to die in a matter of days, its controller will live on. There was some uncertainty about the matter, with users realizing that after the Stadia service would shut down, the controllers would be rendered inoperable, and there was no confirmation as to whether that would change, until now. Google has officially announced that next week, a self-serve tool will be released that allows anyone with a Stadia controller to enable Bluetooth features. The Stadia development team also made one final game release onto the storefront which will only exist for the last few remaining days of the service, simply titled Worm Game. According to Google, this was a test game that developers used to test Stadia's features, prior to its official launch.

Would've been nice if they had waited to end the service until after a bluetooth update was ready...I'm sure a lot of people who aren't tuned in to tech news already threw theirs out.
Well then they are dumb.

And dumb people do dumb things no matter what experts tell them about vaping, etc.

Google really should have announced this at the time of announcing the discontinuation of their service. Google's products wouldn't fail so hard if they didn't suck so terribly at communications.

Well it's not like Google was targeting the most tech savvy crowd with Stadia to begin with, and it certainly wouldn't be the first time they had completely abandoned a project.

So glad I never got into the streaming console game(purchasing wise). What a waste.
I think it's only going to get worse as they(the gaming companies), try and phase out more and more physical stuff like disks.

Then they might get the idea to license bluetooth on your controller like they are licensing more horsepower on a bmw or some nonsense I heard.

So they're enabling a feature that it could have had at launch (and should have launched with), when the service dies... Am I reading this correctly..? Does this make any sense to anyone?

are the controllers even comfortable?
never liked the idea of cloud gaming, but now that the service is on it's deathbed, i'm sort of interested in using one as a generic controller
don't want to pay for one, though

Kind of. It always worked as a USB controller and the "main use case" was to use it via wifi with a direct connection to the servers.

still stupid the controller had a bt module but they locked it so you could only use the controller wirelessly with stadia or wired with regular pc stuff.

The Stadia controller is great so I'm glad they're doing this.

It is.

Feels like a hybrid of the DualShock with Xbox/Nintendo.
