Emulation Goomba Color Not Saving on EZ Flash 2.04?

Hello, I am trying to get my Goomba games to save on my EZ Flash 2.04. But I am having trouble so far.

I can get it to save by using the Save States, but I am not a fan of those. I am just trying to save using the in-game save features.

I downloaded the Goomba Color here: http://www.dwedit.org/gba/goombacolor.php

However, I do not get a .sav file like I thought it would give. So I am unsure if I am just supposed to put the complied .gba file in the EZ Flash IV and let it create the .sav file or if I am supposed to make the .sav file myself or if it is a specific save file I am supposed to use?
