See in Kongsnutz situation, he bought a retail game (New Super Mario Bros. Wii) before street date, leaked it, then showed proof that his dump was legit because no one believed him as it was the first game with BCA protection. In this case the game was pilfered from their own servers, making it next to impossible to find the source of the leak. Kinda like trying to patch a leak in a bicycle intertube without a bucket of water to show you where the air is escaping.

You don't think servers have logs?

Sure, but of all the people who uploaded it directly from their severs which one leaked it. If it's like any other download, they are identical, so how are they going to pinpoint the leak? All they have to go on is who is re-uploading it cracked, and they may be the ones m$ are after. Could be the reason the site I believe is mostly resonsible hasn't been up for awhile.
Honestly, I don't know as I neither work for m$, electronics forensics, or any other related profession, just stating my thoughts.

I would but it seems you need extra controllers to get splitscreen, and I only have one. Sorry.

Only certain people are allowed to access the game, you could work it out by the IPs. Or it might be even easier than that depending on the method of how someone managed to find where it was stored on the server. Someone from a particular IP may have tried out many different directory names or other attempts at finding the location of the file, and this kind of thing is all logged.

How much do you want to bet that this was deliberately put out there in order to find people playing it and have them get banned?

Not that it makes it any smarter or more ethical a move, but I wouldn't exactly put it past Microsoft to do something just like that. I believe the law would call it "entrapment" ? I could be wrong, but eh...

I might be more interested if it was a better game. Bungie ruined Halo for me with 3; I refuse to touch the franchise anymore.

That was a working theory and indeed statements from MS would seem to back it up but everybody that can play it will be using a JTAG machine and those things get banned very quickly after using live let alone using live with a pre release game.

I meant to reply about the controllers thing earlier but the other two controllers were misplaced at that point in time- 2 player is a given but any more than that is limited to classic multiplayer arrangements- scanning through menus it seem campaign co-op and the very well polished firefight modes (you are looking at almost as many options/customisation levels as the venerable N64 (and XBLA) perfect dark*) seem to be off the cards. Commendable compared to the competition I guess but disgraceful compared to history.

*my gold standard for multiplayer FPS gaming options this side of a PC (and even then you will probably have to fire up the level editor to beat it).

Anyone know how/if you play CPU opponents in the custom game mode? I've looked all over the game settings but I can't find anything.
