Apologies for the necro-bump, but I just wanted to share my enthusiasm for this project.
I'm amazed that Stealth went on to create a faithful game engine capable of reproducing Sonic the Hedgehog games, and this is being used for the upcoming Sonic Mania and already used for other re-releases of Sonic games. He already amazed me when he reverse-engineered and rebuilt Sonic the Hedgehog in assembly(?) for the GBA to prove a point way back, it's almost as though this paved the way for HCGE.
I hope that one day the engine can be fully ported over to the 3DS, especially with a .CIA build, as this could make for some amazing homebrew content. It's a shame that the build with sound does not appear to work.
Otherwise, I do have a GCW Zero with which to fully enjoy the engine, but few people own these things.

If I remember right, Sonic Mania isn't using this engine. It's using the Retro Engine, which was used for the cell phone remakes of Sonic CD, Sonic 1, and Sonic 2.

Ahh, so it does apparently, here I mistook the retro engine for HCGE.
Regardless, what these guys have accomplished is superb.

when I try to load HCGE I just get a red screen on the bottom screen, while the top screen has a horizontal line of glitch on the left of the screen.

I tried both versions.
The code is almost 2.5 years old. It's not surprising at all it's in a broken state. You might try to contact the author on his site but I wouldn't expect much in terms of support for this abandonware.

Here you go:
Experimental Builds:
3DS
- requires a 3DS/New3DS capable of running "The Homebrew Launcher"

If you experience any problems with any version of HCGE, please report them at the forum!
If I don't know about it, I can't fix it!

Hey Stealth, there's a stack dump error on load for 3ds on Luma version 8 running 11.4. Any idea what's causing this error?

@SylverReZ if you could find a v5 DS ML you would have the best of both worlds since the v5 units had the same backlight brightness levels as the DS Lite unlockable with flashme

A woman with no arms and no legs was sitting on a beach. A man comes along and the woman says, "I've never been hugged before." So the man feels bad and hugs her. She says "Well i've also never been kissed before." So he gives her a kiss on the cheek. She says "Well I've also never been fucked before." So the man picks her up, and throws her in the ocean and says "Now you're fucked."

anyways, we need to re-normalize physical media

if i didn't want my games to be permanent, then i'd rent them

Agreed, that why I try to buy all my games on disc, Xbox anyways. Switch games (which I pirate tbh) don't matter much, I stay offline 24/7 anyways.
  • AncientBoi @ AncientBoi:
    I don't pirate them, I Use Them :mellow:. Like I do @BigOnYa 's couch :tpi::evil::rofl2:

@BakerMan - you can still "own" digital media, arguably easier and better than physical since you can make copies and backups, as much as you like.

    The issue is DRM
  • cearp @ cearp:
You can buy drm free games / music / ebooks, and if you keep backups of your data (like documents and family photos etc), then you shouldn't lose the game. but with a disk, your toddler could put it in the toaster and there goes your $60

    :rofl2:
  • cearp @ cearp:
still, I agree physical media is nice to have. just pointing out the issue is drm
  • rqkaiju2 @ rqkaiju2:
i like physical media because it actually feels like you own it. thats why i plan on burning music to cds
  • cearp @ cearp:
It's nice to not have to have a lot of physical things though, saves space

  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
@rqkaiju2, Physical media is a great source for archiving your data, none of that cloud storage shiz.
