I heard we could but I haven't seen how, and don't want my DS bricked :-(

Yes. By using Luma, your DS becomes region free.

ANY 3ds works, whether its O3DS or N3DS, it will work.

Sometimes you may need to spoof the language/region with Luma locale emulation, that's mostly only needed for JPN games on other region consoles and vice versa though.
