I have a touch monitor that has a USB-B input. I tend to carry this monitor around the room. Due to this, the port was eventually rendered mostly non-functional. I damage the clips that were holding the shell closed when I went to repair the port causing the monitor to no longer seal shut leading to the use of tape to hold it shut.

Now I'm looking into replacing the monitor with another touch screen monitor. My worry is that the port will be broken again and I want to take steps to keep it from happening.

The one I'm looking at getting;

What reasonable steps could I take to protect the usb port on the monitor.

Well, for one, not moving it around reduces 99% of the risk of damaging it.

USB ports eventually will fail if you use them a lot.
It's inevitable.

Edit: you could just plug in a very small USB cable in the monitor and plug a longer cord to that.

What if you just cut some cardboard to the right width and insert that. Let it stick out a bit. Kind of “cap it off”. Cardboard might be the same thickness.

I was considering plugging a small cable in, and somehow mounting it to the case. It's the mounting it to the case that has me stopped. There are plenty of products from 3M that could handle the job.

I'll stop at Walmart today and see what they have that could extend the life of the port.

I think if I get this;
https://www.amazon.com/Printer-Exte...1-7&keywords=USB+2.0+B+FEMALE+TO+B+MALE+CABLE

and I get some sort of 3M mounting equipment I might be able to reduce the stress on the port. I can replace this cable if it gets broken without messing with the monitors insides.

    For a kids aspect Anbernic would be the better option they'd probably melt over the price on a good 4k display

    So they buy a pi5 kit for about $150 and say a 28" 4k display probably looking around $400 total

    Again you get what you pay for, its like buying a S series for $300 but its only 1440p native, if you want true 4k, gotta get the X model for $500. But yea you right, when moms buying it anyways, you gotta stay cheap.

    They could use HD out on their TV no real need for a monitor these days tbh the purists will disagree

    I'm designing my own entertainment cabinet for my man cave, to store all my systems, then I'm also designing a power supply/HDMI switcher so I can switch to whichever system I want, and power it also. Already picked up the cabinet board, but tinkering with my drawings before start
  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
    But yea, I have frogger arcade cabinet that I gutted and put a Pi4 then Pi5 into, but it never gets played much anymore, should sell it. Even when the kids come over, they don't want to play on it, just the xbox. TMNT and Simpson's arcade is still so fun on it, esp w 2 players.
