How do the people who host various rom sites get the ds roms in the first place? Is there a DS card reader you can buy or can you rip the games via a USB cable connected to the ds? I have a few games I bought that I would like to backup...

Some people use a DS card reader and dump them, others use a homebrew app that dumps games over Wi Fi, I've done this with my Pokemon Pearl game cart to get the save file off of it.

I can't remember the name of the app I used, my DS broke a few months ago so I haven't been up to date on the DS hombrew scene. And I don't know what the rudolph backup tool is, do some googling.

Check around the DS hacking section :/ there is a sticky about it I'm p. sure. Also why didn't you use the searchbar? The one in the top right corner?

I used the search, but didn't see anthing...
So the only ways to get DS ROMs from the carts are Wi-Fi, Neoflash USB and Rudolph tools?
Also does the Wi-Fi method work with the official Nintedo USB dongle?

Personally, I've used my CycloDS and M3 Perfect to dump games using "NDS Backup Tool Slot2", one of which is a scene release. Works a treat and I'm sure it's faster than the WiFi dumper.

There's a number of ways to get a DS rom, I personally use my Supercard Lite to dump roms since it dumps trimmed roms straight to a microSD.
However, Scene Releasers (the groups who mass-release DS roms onto rom download websites) make their own devices to dump DS roms, not using something like Rudolph's tools.

To be honest, I believe most people who dump games actually work in places like Gamestop. They have access to the games without paying for them. They "borrow" them, dump them and return them.

And I wouldn't be surprised if they just use the same tools that we all have access to.....well, for most of the dumps anyway. I'm sure there are a few dumpers who have special tools they don't release to the public, but the majority are dumped with the common tools.

As for the DSi-enhanced games, who knows....I haven't seen one yet that was worth bothering with to even have the slightest chance of me buying and attempting to dump.

I know at least one well known member here who does dump DS games and works for Gamestop I dont know his method. A friend of mine used to work for Gamestation and he couldn't "borrow & dump" games as the game carts were locked in the cupboard (the store just had empty cases on show) and the manager pretty much watched them like hawks in case they tried to "borrow" a game. Apparently its common practise for Gamestation, it this was a couple of years since he worked there.

Of course some managers could dump the games themselves.

Most cases its just people buying the games.
