I might suggest looking for an Animal Crossing-focused message board, Discord, or subreddit – but be careful; some of them are run with an iron fist. (You'll find some people will have a fit if you do so much as exit their station with your shovel equipped.)

These people need to make backups of their town data. It's not like 3DSes are hard to mod. It's not like the PassMe days. Then again, it's Discord. Second only to Reddit in the Internet Cesspool Olympics. (Discord makes me miss IRC something fierce. At least Worms Armageddon still has IRC.)

What? Reddit is public. Discord is all private with invites and so on. They're hardly comparable.
