My powerbank output is 5V 2.1A. It doesn't say whether it's AC or DC but to my knowledge all batteries output DC. The reason I want to use the powerbank is because I can't charge my 3DS from a power point on the plane.

I charged the Switch using a USB port on the plane once and it was just fine. This was before I found out you risk killing it if you don't use a 56K Ohm resistor. I wouldn't do it again though.

You probably would be fine if you used 5V 2.1A, the system would only draw the amount amp it need, as long it is not over 5V you should be fine.

Simple answer: Yes

As long as the PowerBank provides no more than the max voltage the 3DS requires (don't have mine at hand rn).

The amperage will determine how fast the battery from the 3DS will charge, some batteries have a specific requirement in Amps and Volts when charging, while having a diferent one when providing energy to the device.

if the powerbank provides idk 3 or 4amps at the best the charger ic will fry
and kill some components like the processor
if you dont know wth is the charger ic is like a voltage/amp regulator

Why are you bumping this thread after nine months?

This was already addressed in an earlier post. Do you have some actual new information?

It is very unlikely for a DS to fail because of using it on USB (either ports on a computer or a dedicated charger). The amperage of the outlet isn't important in my opinion. A DS will simply not draw 2A or whatever the charger provides. Some people think a strong charger with high amperage would cause problems. As if it was pumping electricity too fast into a device not able to handle this.
I don't think that is true. Responsible for the current is the charging controller of the device.

If you try hard enough you can probably find a power bank sufficiently faulty to fry just about anything, not just a 3DS.

Even if using a powerbank that provides 20 A, the 3DS will consume its own limited charging current, and not the whole 20 A.

As long as the powerbank's voltage is the one the 3DS requires, any powerbank will charge the 3DS battery, but the more Amps the faster the charging will be.

Oh BTW, I sure know what a charging IC is, I'm an Electronics Tech and Renewable Energy Engineer.
