Is the Gamepad Useful as StandAlone Emulator?

The question is, since the WiiU gamepad has a upgradeable firmware, some simple processors inside, is possible that the gamepad supports a NES emulator for example? Only on gamepad side, without use of the WiiU itself, as to demonstrate the capabalities of the Gamepad Itself.

Theoretically: Yes, as you explained.
Practically: No, the gamepad is way too underpowered to do anything usefull.

I think the most that's ever been done with the GamePad alone is changing the Nintendo logo to a SALT one. It would be cool to have a proper CFW for it, though..

Like everything else, nothing proved until it can run Doom on its own.

As others have pointed out, it just wouldn't be powerful enough to do anything useful on its own.
The next best option would probably be to build a raspberry pi into the gamepad .

cfw to make it region free rather than having to make the wii u itself be region free first lol
