Meaning you can't bypass the welcome screen, so if someone else gets a hold of your phone, the phone constantly sends you its location and keeps itself locked, only the owner of the phone can unlock it after being wiped/ROM flashed. You bet I won't be using a Chinese cloud service! And how is ROM flashing not deleting everything related to good encryption?
A ROM flash DOES wipe everything but the Mi Cloud service sits on the persist partition of the phone, a partition you can't thinker meaning its practically theft-proof.
You don't have to use it, but if you want to keep things backed up and Find My Device active, it has to be activated.
Literally all of the news stories about OnePlus leaking info to chinese servers were proven to be misconceptions or simply false. Even then, the OP seems to be keen into installing third party roms on his phone, so it wouldn't matter even if Oxygen OS leaked anything (which again, it doesn't).
I know for sure that ZTE does that, had one and there are lot of processes in the background sending my info over.
People are afraid I guess :/ but its not like Google doesn't do the same thing, they even know where you went and where you are even without you knowing that they're keeping that data.
