Looking for more clear info about home menu icon limit

It seems to be hard to find a clear answer for exactly what things count against the 300 icon limit. Here are the things I'm wondering about:

- Does DSiWare count against the 300? Or are they in their own separate limit of 40?
- Do folders, including empty ones, count against the 300?
- Do badges count against the 300?
- Does the cartridge slot icon count too? My guess is yes but idk

So, not counting folders (is there a limit on how many folders one can create?), you can have 300 3DS Apps + 40 DSiWare titles + 13 System Icons - 353 icons.

System Icons: Nintendo Zone, Download Play, Health & Safety Information, Activity Log, 3DS Camera, 3DS Sound, Mii Maker, Face Raiders, AR Games, eShop, System Settings, Mii Plaza, & (Card Slot).

Yes, folders, badges, and items inside folders count. So a folder with a badge attached and 5 programs inside it counts as 7 icons towards your 300 limit.

Btw, you can use 3dsbank to get around that (in a way), by making a new Nintendo 3ds folder so you can switch between the two (or more) whenever you want.
