The Moon Books Project (located at moonbooks.net) has been effectively killed by a DoS attack. The resurrection is at hand.

I'm sorry to hear about that. Anyway to pinpoint where the culprits are from?
a full large scale ddos is almost impossible to trace.
it's usually a whole army of computers that are infected by a virus that makes them send a large amount of data to an IP address when the creator/owner of that virus requests it.
to trace the one who ordered the ddos you first need to get a sample of the virus off one of the infected computers(very difficult)
then you have to reverse-engineer(atleast as difficult) it to capture it's way of contacting it's owner/creator.
after that you need to actually trace the IP the owner/creator uses to access that way of contacting(usually it's through an irc channel)
after that you can get as close as pinpoint the city the attacker is located in, but even then you have to hope his ISP will support you.
and at best case it most likely ends with the attacker's internet being cut-off for a while.

Why would anyone take out moonbooks? If you want to talk about innocuous websites, moonbooks has got to be one of the most innocent on the web!

whats moonbooks about ?

Basically the guy collects all sorts of public domain books, comics, movies and anything else he can get his hands on, converts them to appropriate formats for the DS and uploads them to his site. He runs contests and all sorts of cool stuff. He's a very genuine kind of person, which is why this irritates me so much. Makes me wonder why books got taken out and TMW didn't.

I've been in talks with my hosting provider, and we are working on getting things back up and running. I appreciate all the kind words and support.
