I am getting the same thing as when people show me their train sets -- I can see the skill and dedication that would have gone into it but I am in no way excited or have any desire to get one of my own.

On "disposable cash" I do have to say it is still possible to put in time and effort to make up for a lack of funds. Personally I truly hate filing when I know big boy tools exist but it does work in the end -- you can pretend you are paying homage to your great great grandfather or something.

i love to build and design things , rarely do i fill my time with such endeavours though , usually time isnt on my side that and the fact that theres always something more important to fund.
Im an engineer and love this guys dedication and attention to detail . When i refer to funds i guess i meant the 3D printer , would love to play with one but couldnt justify it .

Personally I would stick with subtractive methods as for a similar price you can do far better (for anything close to proper engineering I would say 3d printers are good for moulds, forms, that little bastard piece of plastic on your washing machine when it breaks (that of course does not come outside of the £80 assembly) and not a lot else in consumer world, though some of the sintered and laser cured stuff does well and is brushing up against that price point), however though the barrier to entry if you want one for your own shed is not inconsiderable there are ways around that too
