Hacking Need Guidance on Replacing DVD Drive [Black Wii - RVL-001]

Hi everyone,

So I've had a Black Wii for around 2 years now. I already knew this one didn't work with DVD backups but I didn't care. I mostly play from USB or directly on Dolphin.

I'm looking to change the DVD drive on the console for pure convenience for the feature. According to Wiidrives. I had a 75% chance of having a GC2-D4 on a smaller drive board, that ended up being the case. (Tested with NeoGamma and DarkCorp).

I've been looking around for a D2A, DMS, but I'm unsure on what to trust. I don't live in the US so any purchase I make is best if I know what I'm getting)

Any drive chip will work u don't need to worrie what chip it has because your not chipping it

Interesting. From what I read they always wrote that you still had to take into account the chip that the drive had, since you don't want one with D4 in it.

It'd probably be more convenient to just buy a second wii. They're very cheap nowadays ($30 at my local shop for one with game cube ports)

Yea I can get them for $10-$15 a pop

That is actually another option. Just haven't found one that cheap near me so far. I didn't have enough for another Wii, but I could just wait longer to be honest. It's not a matter of life and death.

Sorry to come back and answer so late. I've been mia.
It obviously boots originals, but no backups at all.

I've haven't looked again for drives, but getting another Wii just seems like the better option.
