Apple Need new battery

I apologize if this has been answered elsewhere.

I bought a pre-owned Ipod Touch 2G off ebay awhile back. The battery isn't holding it's charge very long, and very likely the Ipod Touch needs a new battery.

I'm wondering, if I mail it to Apple for them to replace the battery, will they screw around with the Ipod? Like erase the jailbreak off it and whatnot.

Apple will completely replace your iPod, instead of just replacing the battery (read: no jailbreak, music, videos, apps, etc.). I suggest restoring before handing the iPod to Apple.

Try replacing it your self.
If you have some soldering skills and enough patience to open it.

If they take the battery out, they have to reset the iPod to factory default so it'd be best to backup your SHSH blobs.
