You dont anymore, a replacement DS firmware has been released allowing the booting of 'homebrew' code from the ds flashcard. unfortunatly you do need a passme to flash your firmware in order to do it though, but this is good news as now you only need 1 passme between a few people to flash your DS and in time i think the hacking of DS will be via firmware upgrades and not just via DS cards and adapters.

correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe you also need to solder 1 wire to allow writing permission on the firmware...

You don´t need to solder anything. As long as you short 2 points, you´re good to go.

Or you if you have a compatible wi-fi adapter, you can just use WiFiMe and not have to worry about getting your hands on a PassMe.

I think all this Neo Flash junk is just Hype, I dont think it will be as useful as people say considering that its not much different than current carts except it uses a Nintendo DS cartridge. However ,its a good start though

i agree wid u as i own a supercard and 1GB card and should hold any ds card sizes even in the future.

i highly doubt that compact flash is anywhere near fast enough to run ds games from
hell it struggles to run some gba games at full speed

As for the 1 wire to solder, not read that myself but its not hard to solder a wire.

actually I forgot the supercard is only 256M so that wouldn't work out, you'd need to increase the ram inside it.

One more thing if it's released at around 180 bucks or so it would cost as much as Visoly Linkers or XG-flash when they were first released pretty cheap

Did you notice:it seems they've been working on their linker for a moment now ..which makes sense
