Netflix claims that Fortnite is one of its biggest competitors
When it comes to digital streaming, Netflix is one of the largest contenders, being one of the most well known services of them all, managing to reach a massive $16 billion dollars in revenue last year. Netflix tends to vie for consumer's money and time against the likes of Hulu or HBO, or even YouTube, but according to a new earnings report, there's an even bigger enemy to the company; Epic Games' insanely popular video game Fortnite. In the document, Netflix stated that, "we earn consumer screen time, both mobile and television, away from a very broad set of competitors. We compete with (and lose to) Fortnite more than HBO". The company appears to be considering not only subscription numbers, but also how often its users watch content, with Netflix earning about 10% of all viewed television content, and even less when it comes to mobile, which Fortnite tends to dominate in. Despite the gap in both products, Netflix views a free mobile game as more of a stronger competitor rather than other paid television services, showing just how much of a titan that Fortnite has become since its launch.
