HI all - new to the 360 hacking scene so just wondering if its worth buying a JTAG'd Falcon model for $100 ?

I have a few 360 slims already, mostly for rock band and guitar hero, but am just curious if $100 is a fair price for this hacked console.

The seller says its in excellent condition and that it has an upgraded aftermarket fan as well as an extra fan installed internally to prevent overheating / RROD.

It also includes a free USB key running XeXMenu.

TIA !

100$ is fine if it comes with a decent sized HDD and a power brick. I usually sell them(falcons) around 110 with a 250gb or more and a power brick, shipped.

I love 360's, but its too much imo if it doesnt have a hard drive. The USB stick is nice and all but the HDD is essential to make the most out of the unit.

sorry should also mention i am in Canada so this is equivalent to about $75 USD.

plus i have plenty of extra 2.5" hdd's laying around.

I will see if i can get him to $80 CDN which would be around $60 USD.

edit - is it fairly simple to add in a hard drive ?

Yeah that changes things a bit lol. If its 75$ US, then its totally worth it. Get a good size hdd with it and youre set. You can use any 2.5" laptop hdd up to 2TB. Keep in mind that phat consoles need the HDD caddy though.

An additional 40mm Fan fitted above heatsink GPU is beneficial plus you can run ur Stock Fans at a higher rate to help exhaust the Heat.

I have found Stock Xenon CPU Heatsink and Additional Copper GPU Heatsinks work well together.

Just a little side note, if it's actually JTAG and not RGH it'll be worth a little more also. JTAG capability died in like 08-09ish when MS patched it in an update so finding actual JTAG consoles are rare due to age of exploit and RROD. Most hacked 360's are glitchers

this RROD thing is what has me a little weary about picking this up - i would hate to shell out for this and then have it die on me.

I am hoping the upgraded fan and extra fan will prevent this from happening.

so other than backing up games - what other benefits would this provide ?

Unless you're a software developer, not much else. emulators, backups, og xbox games, a little homebrew stuff here and there. Theres some online hacking with stealth servers and modded hyperviser files, but its a pain in the ass, the scene is shadier than anything you've seen here, and can get costly quick. Scams abound.

As far as RROD, its either going to do it or not. Fans can help, but it won't stop it forever. The silver based solder underneath the BGA chips cracks and tarnish's causing resistances to form between the motherboard and processors. The only permanent fix is to re-ball the chips with lead solder.

I would probably pay a little more for a Jasper since they are far less likely to RRoD. You just never know with used 360s, they may have already RRoDed and had quick "fixes" applied which aren't going to last.

I'm running a Falcon RGH.
Thing has never had an issue.

Did some minor cooling mods for it but other then that, still going strong despite countless of hours on it.
