Nintendo expects to have shipped 17.76 million Switch units by March 3rd 2018, on the console-handheld-hybrid's 1st birthday. [prebreak]1[/prebreak]

Currently, the global Switch hardware sales sit at 14.86 million units, with software sales at 52.57 million units.

"For the nine months ended December 31, 2017, the Nintendo Switch hardware sold well following the launch and sales volume rose substantially during the holiday season. For the Nintendo Switch software, SUPER MARIO ODYSSEY was released in October and has been a big hit, with global sales reaching 9.07 million units. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, released in April, has sold 7.33 million units, and Splatoon 2, released in July, has sold 4.91 million units, bringing to 8 the total number of million-seller titles for this fiscal year including the titles of other software publishers. The result is that hardware sales during this period totalled 12.13 million units, and software sales volume totalled 47.10 million units."

Very impressive for such a short time on the market, but can Nintendo really shift another 3 million units in just 2 months?

Am I the only one who had the guts to sell his Switch because of a lack of ‘new’ games on it (after December)? And next weeks and months don’t look that promising either... let it be E3 fast! I might jump on the bandwagon again.
Have you never bought a new console before? Every console has a lack of new games for the first year or so. The switch has far more than the ps4, 3ds, etc had. It takes time for games to come out.

There were game releases in December and it's only been a month since then...wtf was the point if you're just gonna buy one eventually for Pokemon or Smash or Metroid anyway? Waste of money.

I wonder if we can still use the excuse of ‘new’ console once we finish the 1 year cycle...

So few people bought the Wii U that the ports might as well be exclusive.
I want to plaster this sentence everywhere on the Internet so the idiots who mock the Wii U's sales but then complain about ports from the second least successful Nintendo system after the Virtual Boy shut up.

PS4's library was hot garbage after only one year, Switch is definitely doing better.
So was 3ds, they cut the price significantly and gave free games to everyone who owned one because they weren't selling at all. It basically launched with a remaster and street fighter 4, and then got a bare bones "3d" Mario and another n64 remaster. It didn't start getting anything really good for a long time. Honestly how many systems get more then 3 or so outstanding exclusives in their first year?

Because it’s less of waste to make it collect dust... and end up with an even more worse battery. Just my 0,02$.

I would certainly hope so, they've already announced they're bringing loot boxes back for SWBF2.

EA, *sigh* bunch of charlatan bastards, screwing people over.

The comment section is hilarious on that tweet. People are making fun of EA in it for calling multiplayer games the future when Odyssey managed to outsell one of EAs biggest multiplayer titles.

EA is worthy of every ounce of criticism for that game. I hope their servers get shut down.

Ha ha ha ha, excellent. This is what happens when EA goes full douchebag with their games.

I think it's success is a combination of the portability, having 2 exclusive giants right on launch, and nintendos assurance there is a lot of 3rd party support. As for Wii u hate, it's mostly from people who haven't played any of it's numerous great exclusives, or spec whores. And no Zelda was a simultaneous release.

I disagree it was terrible from a hardware standpoint, it was in between ps3 and ps4 in terms of power and was the strongest system available at the time it came out. If it came out after the ps4 that would be one thing, but it's forgivable since it launched a good bit before Xbox and ps4. As for marketing, they did a horrible job explaining what it even is. A lot of people thought it was a tablet add-on to the wii. The name was bad and it looked exactly like a wii. They didn't show why people should buy it. It also launched with next to nothing. Mario 3d world didn't come out for about a year, smash for a few, and a new Zelda didn't come until 2017. Only major game it launched with was Mario u, which wasn't going to be a system seller.
Yes. The Wii U had pretty good hardware. It had a kick-ass graphics card, though it was held back by it's decent processor. If the Wii U was $50 more expensive to have a better processor, the system could maybe be more powerful then a PS3 and competing strongly with the PS4.

The next barrier I see nintiondo having to break is people who only have a PS4 or Xbox. lots of kids at my school still view Nintendo as lame. Glad to see Nintendo is improving its image with the better commercials however.

It really didn't have a good GPU...
