Nintendo Virtual Boy Link Cable and Hyper Fighting (Street Fighter II) News

Since the secretive and somewhat controversial release of Virtual Boy Hyper Fighting (Street Fighter II), those lucky enough to have acquired 2 carts have sought to test out the 2-player versus mode. The Virtual Boy Link Cable project was originally re-inspired after an official prototype VB link cable was discovered. However, the process of bringing a working prototype to life has remained an DIY project until now. The newest person to pick up the project has publicly announced that the release of a working VB 2-player link cable is closer than we think. This news does come with a caveat, 2 carts are required for 2-player gaming. Thankfully this too may no longer be an issue as the creator of the FlashBoy [Richard Hutchinson] has just posted that a cart-only, 2nd printing of Virtual Boy Hyper Fighting is well in the works.

So there was a street fighter to game for Virtual boy? I never knew that. Now I wanna try. :)

you can grab the demo from here: https://filetrip.net/oldies-downloa...hyper-fighting-virtual-boy-demo-1-f32317.html

there is also a recent hack floating about that unlocks characters in the demo.

the CIB release consisted of 75 carts which sold for $150 ea. everyone interested was allowed the option to buy 2 carts (because of the 2-player mode), and no more. since then they have popped up on eBay and at gaming events. I've seen them from $500-$1200 ea. the game was a commission by Ben Stevens, and it is a "homebrew" and not an official Capcom release. I've played it, it is pretty amazing. even the 3D depth of field came out really well.

Seeing Another World's thread on the main page is a very welcomed blast from the past. I am happy to see you are still around.
As for the news on hand, I am also happy to see the VB still has a following.

On topic? Watching the game play video is actually impressive. It seems to work fairly decently, even on such limited hardware.

This is nice to see these sort of unofficial things coming on dead platforms :P

Too bad I don't own a Virtual Boy, nor do I plan to get one, for now.

Can't say that even this entices me to consider it. That's mostly because the glaring red always gave me a bad headache.

anyone here know how to use METEO?
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
    It's very simple.
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
Meteo is like an AVI-to-GBA converter. Just drag-and-drop your AVI file in, and then convert.
  • Xdqwerty @ Xdqwerty:
@SylverReZ, like those gba carts that have movies and tv episodes in them?
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
But Nintendo's GBA video format is different, being that it uses a custom ROM and chipset for rendering, for like the Shrek and Shark Tale titles. Been undumpable for years and years.
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
    Meteo uses it's own player.
  • Xdqwerty @ Xdqwerty:
@SylverReZ, those roms are dumped currently, right?

  • Xdqwerty @ Xdqwerty:
Although it's kinda pointless to download them anyway since you get the movies in horrible quality
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
@Xdqwerty, Yep, they are now, but it took a shit ton of RE'ing.
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
    RE = reverse engineering
  • Xdqwerty @ Xdqwerty:
@SylverReZ, can you remind me what reverse engineering meant pls?
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
@Xdqwerty, Reverse engineering, to put it simply, is to understand how the software or hardware was made.
  • K3Nv2 @ K3Nv2:
Lol someone tried using my email to log into Nintendo
  • Xdqwerty @ Xdqwerty:
@SylverReZ, is that through trial and error sometimes?
