Software works fine for me on OSX.
If the dongle itself is not detected correctly and no other serial/usb devices exist, then the program might crash.
Just as when you choose the wrong serial device once. On boot it will always use this selection and crash because it cannot initialize the wrong device.
Installing/Uninstalling does not help because that setting is stored somewhere.
