Hi everyone

I've been having this problem recently that when I load Paper Mario for GCN (NTSC) under DIOS MIOS with wiiflow, occasionally, spontaneously, during gameplay the wii will just turn off!!! Not crash, just no power. The game has been extracted and shrunk as GCReE.

The HD I am using is in a 2.5" powered enclosure and I have tried these things with no joy. I am using the latest revision of the Wiiflow masterpiece collection.
1) chkdsk external hd
2) replaced the extracted files with a fresh, downloaded iso, shrunk and extracted as GCReE.

Any ideas would be great as it sucks, my son loves playing this game with us, we get so far, forget to save, it powers off and then we have to go through it all over again!!

I will post all CIOS's if required, any help will be appreciated

Cheers

DIOS MIOS shut downs the Wii when it crashes instead of displaying an error screen.
try to play with a non extracted game, and a non shrinked game.

Gamecube compatibility is always better on 1:1 full uncompressed unaligned ISO.
GCReEx or DiscEx is NOT needed, at all.
if guides tell users to use these tools, it's because they are wrong guides.

I only used GCReEx to save space and it has be recommended that access to files would be faster on GCReEx as all the files are extracted and available.

Anyway, not to worry about that, I shall for this game use a 1:1 image and see what happens.

Thanks for informing me of DIOS's 'error reporting'

Is it just me, or DIOS MIOS shuts down my Wii randomly even with non extracted and/or uncompressed files? Nintendont saved me that's why I recommend it. Also DIOS MIOS didn't let me play legitimate GCN Disks. (A few freezes here and there).

Isn't Align for extracted file only?
or when compressing the ISO?
aligning without compression or extraction has no meaning.

Aligning is a way to put the start of the file to the start of the sector/cluster/etc. aligned on 32k
for example if you use 16k/cluster, and one file occupy only a single cluster then the next file will not be placed on the next cluster, it will be on the second one (to be multiple of 32)

If you use 1:1 clean ISO, the files are already placed at the correct position (the place they occupied on the real disc, so the place where the console expect them).

Edit:
Maybe aligning is used when writing the ISO to the device?
To put the start of the ISO on a cluster multiple of 32k?
it's only an issue if your device use cluster size lower than 32k.

If DIOS MIOS (Lite) is one of the least stable GCN Loaders, then why do people still use it? Does it have some benefits I didn't notice?

I tried nintendon't with no problems so far. Moreover, Star Fox adventures, Eternal Darkness and Bomberman Generations all have full sound now with Nintendon't, as opposed to DIOS; so I am using this now to load all gamecube games!

Thanks
