Pimax reveals 60G AirLink wireless module for PCVR

pimax vr wireless.jpg

During CES last week, VR hardware specialist Pimax has unveiled a new accessory for their PCVR line: the 60G AirLink wireless module. This add-on, compatible with their current flagship the Pimax Crystal with 8K display, enables users to experience PCVR wirelessly by leveraging 60G millimeter wave (mmWave) technology that enables high-speed data transmission and low latency. More details about the module can be found in the source link below. While no release date has been provided for the 60G AirLink wireless module, Pimax expects it to be released in "the near future". The company also apparently demoed their next flagship's prototype during the event which they teased to have higher resolution, expansive field of view (FOV) and a new interchangeable optical system.

From what I've heard of the Pimax headsets, this will probably be crazy if they can actually transmit all the data needed for 8k over a wireless interface. Just no way I'm paying for another headset anytime soon, the Vive is still serving me well and no point to upgrade as of yet.

The data or bandwidth isnt even the real concern for me. Its the latency thats the problem.
Theres ways around bandwidth using compression or AI upscaling. But when the latency is bad, then it totally kills the immersion when you feel the delay in the head tracking.

I feel like you're more sensitive to latency when its in VR than when you're playing a game on a monitor or TV.

Until the headsets evolve to encompass your peripheral vision (meaning no goggle effect all around), then I'll upgrade.

Yeah, probably got it around 2018/2019 and it's still been running great ever since with no issues. I would like to invest in a newer setup at some point, but I've heard how annoying the tracking for the controllers can be on the Quest headsets since they don't use base stations which would annoy me greatly. It would be nice to have better screens, but I'm not in a rush so maybe the next gen of headsets I'll upgrade.

Ha puritans, and perhaps, but for anyone that isn't limiting their motions with the controllers it may become a bother in games like Blade&Sorcery. The Quest series isn't bad for those without a PC and/or new to VR though.

my argument is that it isnt bad for anyone. steam hw survey tends to validate my point
