This is so not Nintendo that I don't think it's even possible.
Honestly I could see a dock with an upgraded GPU, but I doubt it'd happen until like... 2020, at least. And even if it did happen, they'd have to find a way to make the entire dock cost less than $200 (which could theoretically be done with Volta, I guess)This is so not Nintendo that I don't think it's even possible.
Well if you take some of the stuff out that didn't need to be included, the dock is like $30, joy cons is like $35 right? HD rumble, NFC reader, Infa red sensor, motion controls, It could have just been a tablet with $200 with a standard controller which I bet most games by other companies will aim for, and the other stuff is optional purchases. It could have been cheaper but with the talk of all that hardware just made it cost that much.Mm, yes, gotta love me that $300
Sliding in? What size are you thinking of? Even without a CD and piggybacking off some of Switch power, surely a 4K add-on would be significantly big?I don't think many people would buy the old console that much. It would be as easy as sliding the upgrade in. That's all it takes.
I was the one confused, but I think a dock would be better. I doubt they would go back to two screen gaming just to play 3ds games on the Switch. I don't see a 3DS player happening.Well because of this confusion, i suppose is safe to say is just misunderstanding?
New dock would be nice, with a cooling system and better charge times during use and no potential scratching, a addon I wouldn't mind for 3DS games. Maybe have the dock work without the switch, you can put in the Game card or maybe the SD card with the 3DS games on, and use the switch as the touch screen or include second screen in package.
I'm referring to your idea of a GPU dock that also plays 3DS games lolWell if you take some of the stuff out that didn't need to be included, the dock is like $30, joy cons is like $35 right? Does anyone even care about rumble anymore? You buy games for the motion controls? Are they gonna make more amiibos or make the ones we have work with more games? That stuff just seem to make the joycon more expensive. Most people would use dock for ethernet but I'm sure there could be accessories without it, and the 5G AC wifi isn't bad at all to be honest, way better than ps4.
Yes, and is only a IDEA. Not really sure it would be $300 since playstation tv was less than $100, shouldn't be that expensive right?I'm referring to your idea of a GPU dock that also plays 3DS games lol
Switch is only able to output up to 1080p. Even in 720p it lags sometimes. For 4k output (for things other then pictures and videos) it will need additional processors (graphical and probably also normal cpu) which will only run on docked mode... nintendo never made an addon for consoles that gives them more processing power. I dont think it will happen. If you want 4k box go get xbonex or pc capable of that. Pc is better because you will also get to play (if you get enough proccessing power) zelda botw at 4kWell, Nintendo did make "add-ons" to basically every single console they made back then and I can't see why they wouldn't do something crazy like this especially when consoles about $600 for 4K is very cheap compared to PCs right now. I mean have you seen the boom in XBONEX's lately? They literally sold out on pre-orders. I really want to see how the community reacts as of this right now.

You also need to transfer a lot of data between in-built processors and memory to the gpu outside, probably only through the usb c port which will become the bottleneck. And it will be just better if they make the "new seitchi lite color" with more processing power...Honestly I could see a dock with an upgraded GPU, but I doubt it'd happen until like... 2020, at least. Correct, but you haven't factored in the GPU upgrade yetYes, and is only a IDEA. Not really sure it would be $300 since playstation tv was less than $100, shouldn't be that expensive right?
Well I dunno, just ideas. I doubt it would be expensive to just have hardware requirements to play 3DS games in 1080P like vita tv. 3DS GPU isn't anything impressive is it? if anything, the vita tv could have been more expensive than a "3DS TV" cause the vita had better hardware.Correct, but you haven't factored in the GPU upgrade yet
I'm fine with that, as long as you can play the base game, without all the enhance visuals. They should allow external hard drives regardless of this idea. As long as the base game is on the console, it would just switch () back to lower visuals.I'm surprised nobody pointed one huge design flaw with the Switch that would make it very hard to achieve 4k. Storage.
Compare size of XBO and PS4 games to size of Switch games, especially for the 'enhanced' PS4 PRO and XBO X games that are made with 4k in mind. Those textures themselves take TENS of gigabytes. That means that a physical copy of the game would be unable to have those textures, it would be necessary to download them from Nintendo's servers. Have fun downloading a 30GB texture pack for example. Not to mention that in such a case the dock would HAVE TO have built in storage, because the 32GB of the Switch itself, or even the SD cards would simply be not enough to handle those. And with that would come a huge problem, such dock would basically rob Switch of it's main gimmick, taking the console out to play on the go, as during a 4k game like this it would be depending on the external memory that would be disconnected the moment you take the Switch out.
