Read below post for clear information.

Hello. I just got this xbox one s from someone. It is a 2nd hand model. The owner doesn't know anything about it. The xbox looks ok from outside but won't turn on. I opened it up to check the cables and conneections and everything was plugged in right. There are two main things to notice :
1. While inspecting the mother board i saw 3 ic chips with missing connection(s). I have attached pictures.
2. The second hdmi port has been replaced and it is not attached to the board rather just soldered into its position. By 2nd hdmi port i mean the one you use to get signal into the xbox not out of it. Any help is appreciated.

I checked the hard drive using a program that shows it's health and the health is I think around 9 percent out of 100. I replaced the hard drive in the xbox one s but sadly it doesn't turn on.

I reckon the issue is from hard drive because there is no sound no light nothing when I press the power button or the eject button. What do you think about the ic chips i showed, are they supposed to loook like this ?

New drive in and do power on combo to see if you get at least into troubleshoot menu.

You can update your console using the Xbox Startup Troubleshooter. To bring up the Xbox Startup Troubleshooter, follow these steps:
  1. Power off your console, and then unplug the power cord to ensure that the console is completely powered off.
  2. Wait 30 seconds, and then plug the power cord back in.
  3. Press and hold the Pair button (located on the left side of the console) and the Eject button (located on the front of the console), and then press the Xbox button  on the console.
Note The Xbox Series S and the Xbox One S All-Digital Edition do not have Eject buttons. You can bring up the Xbox Startup Troubleshooter on these consoles by holding only the Pair button (steps 3 & 4) and then pressing the Xbox button .
  4. Continue holding the Pair and Eject buttons for 10-15 seconds.
  5. Listen for two “power-up” tones a couple of seconds apart. You can release the Pair and Eject buttons after the second power-up tone.
  6. The console should power up and take you directly to the Xbox Startup Troubleshooter.

As I expected. There is no power at all. I believe the xbox is not getting any power. I have tried different outlets and cables so I'm sure it's not the case. There is something wrong inside the console.

Did you just toss a non formatted xbox hard drive into the console and expect it to boot? The drive has to be prepared and setup before it can be put in the console to achieve any amount of success. Suggest looking at the thread about upgrading the hard drive in the xbox one as that is what must be followed before the system will boot with a replacement hard drive.

I ofcourse didn't expect it to work properly but the least it can do is power on or turn some light on and then if I don't get display or I get some error message I may diagnose it further. For now I'm getting no power at all, I don't think hard disk has anything to do with it. My last option remains to check the power supply since I don't have a digital multimeter I might take it to one of the technicians and have the power suppy checked.

Ah, yeah you're probably correct. I was just thinking that maybe the console possibly wouldn't even power on if the proper format hdd wasn't detected but you should probably get at least the chime and a brief flash of the power led.

NTFS format should get you to troubleshoot screen sometimes requires the button presses like it states on ms site.

I've been repairing many x ones without script and straight ntfs + usb + OSU.

Pardon me maybe i didn't understand you correctly. So what you are saying is that a bad hdd can infact effect the power of the console. Since there's no light no chime nothing at all. No sign of life. I've repaired a few playstations, this is my first time with xbox but I don't think the hdd has any relation to the power or does it ?

Updated information:-

I'm now working with two Xbox One s (Model 1681).

Project X:

This is the first Xbox One S. 1 Tera Byte, made year 2019.

Currently known issue : No power, bad HDD

Tried solutions:
1.Tried going into safe mode/recovery mode - Didn't work

2. Changed the HDD (got another working 500 GB HDD) - Didn't work

3. Tried another power supply (tested to be working fine on Project Z) - Didn't work

4. Changed front button board (Not sure about the name; the small motherboard which has all the buttons i.e eject and power button.)

Project Z:
This is the second Xbox One S. 500 GB, made year 2017.

Currently known issue : No signal on tv; Black screen.

Tried Solutions:
1. Going into recovery mode - Doesn't work

Now I would like to fix one of these XBOXs, any help is appreciated.

The Project X has one issue on the MB that I saw, which was that there aren't proper connections with one of the ic chips on the board. Pictured above in Yellow and Green. The Project Z has these chips connected properly and i've seen other boards on the internet, these chips are connected properly. Can this be the issue since there is not any other kind of fault/water damage/bad connections on the board and the power supply has been replaced as well. Can I solder back the joints and maybe it will work ?

The IC's are 'linear voltage regulators' (LDO), and the center joint is the ground. It also acts to dissipate heat, and apparently burns like a fuse when it gets too hot. Also, discontinued production since 2014. I found a datasheet but need more postcount to post the link.

The One S that I have been working on had a black screen at boot issue and a failing HDD. I suspected due to the console sitting on narrow shelf behind a glass door of a TV cabinet. I have used the opportunities presented for some ongoing Uncle-to-Nephew teachable lessons on electronics care, DIY repair, basic on file systems, filetypes. Now there is an 8 year old booger picker that swears he is going to retire before High-School, with all the bucks, kilobucks, megabucks, gigabucks, and terabucks he is going to make from opening all of his friends' consoles.

After replacing the drive, the console will now boot to the 4 troubleshooter options. Offline update with OSU will get 2 of 3 steps completed then reboots to E100 code. Until shutdown.

Depending on the button combination I use to restart, and which files are on the USB, if any, I have been able to boot to E100, E101, and no error code. But, the console will not factory reset, or get past the reboot following Offline Update step 2 without returning to E100. When changing the disc drive cables, I noticed the same 3 IC connections looked like the pics you posted a few weeks ago that I glanced at when starting this repair.

I will post the results after soldering. What's the worst that could happen, right?

Though, I did manage to solder some little ground "straps" to the center connections of the chips, nothing got fixed. The straps were stripped out of an IDE cable, with a tiny section of the rubber left to hold the strands together.
The voltage regulators are also grounded to the board directly underneath the chip. While this connection may supply a tolerant amount of voltage for the troubleshooter to start, the broken regulator can't do it's job. Too much or too little voltage is supplied when the APU requests more for normal operation, so it continues to throw the hardware code and 4 troubleshooter options.
The internal circuits may have been fried from the start, but it was still worth a try.

My project is shelved until a donor board is found for replacement regulators.

I didn't feel the need to post pics of this lesson, because it failed to correct the problem. If you try this for your board, be sure to use a good stable swivel-arm mount for the iron. B-) You would have thought I was in an earthquake when I first attempted this by free-hand.

My other Xbox one S, the one I named project Z has similar issues as yours. The HDMi retiner {or the HDMi IC chip} has gone bad since it won't change from 480p to 1080p, when I do it the screen goes black. I tried changing the language since it was in another language and it required internet and eventually and update. My biggest mistake .. I updated it and now it gives me E100 and E101 errors everytime.. even if I perform an offline update it doesn't work. Formatting is not possible, it restarts the console. The HDD is fine. any clue what it could be ?
