Is there any possible way to get onto PSN in order to play any online through a non-jailbroken PS3 with 3.50 firmware?

No. To get onto PSN you must have the latest firmware, 3.55. You CAN however, download patches for games without logging on to PSN.

If your not bothered about JAILBREAKING (noting you said you have a none jailbroken PS3 with 3.50 firmware here, and most Jailbreak apps are for post 3.50 ie 3.41 or lower) then why not just update with PSN and get 3.55 and play online

This is sorta a shared ps3 and so friends here want to occasionally downgrade and do their ''stuff''.
