Hello everybody today I will show you my review of the R4i Gold with Wood Support.Before I start I would like to thank Lightake for giving me the review sample.I Received my sample in 2 weeks and it came with no damage and is working on my DSi 1.4.1 with Wood.
Introduction:
The R4i Gold has a very bad image infront of many customers due it being a simple R4 name clone?But after the release of the Wood Firmware which I could not try before due to having a DSi.I knew I had to try this.This review will only review the cart and the wood firmware not the official firmware.The official firmware and wood have high compatibility but wood has a nicer ui and is more user friendly.
Packaging:
Wow just wow.. I was expecting the box to bigger than that.The box of the wood r4i gold is even smaller than my Acekard 2i and I thought that was small.Good things come in small packages so lets see if that applies here.The packaging as pretty strong, stronger than my Acekard 2i and Supercard DSTWO.The inside had a plastic tray containing an R4i Gold in a blue carrying case and a microSD card reader.Lets talk about the goodies the card reader is good but didnt work on my first try but for the week I have been using it, it works like a charm.The blue carrying case is not like most R4 light blue, this one is dark blue and slightly transparent, overall I like the look.The box does not give much info other than chingrish crap like it supports moonshell(OMG its a miracle)
Build Quality:
This cart has build quality slightly better than the Acekard 2i but worse than the SCDS2.It has a red PCB, nice little sticker with no bumps on the top and fits inside my DSi perfectly without being pushed in or stopping in the middle.Overall I think build quality is mediocre but gets the job done well.The cart however would just make my DSi hand on the touch to continue screen if I tried it without a microSD.Putting a microSD in fixed this problem.
Firmware:
The wood firmware is what brought the R4 back from the dead and is whats helping many other flashcarts such as this one, M3, SCDS1 and various other clones.The firmware is very quick and responsive just like akAIO, it gets fixes within a day or two of a games release and plays everything.The skinning is great and pretty versatile and there are many different skins at acekard.com and at ndsthemes.It has some features like akAIO such as file operations, global settings but is missing out on Autoboot(very important for me, its the reason menuDO wont work) and APP.Overall its sleek, fast and plays my games with a few fun extras.
