Who the hell pays Apple to upgrade their RAM? (You can get 8GB and install it yourself, not only will it be 1/4 of Apple's price, but it'll still be under warranty).
Also, if you exclude the mediocre GPU, the Pro's more powerful than the Blade (since the Blade's dual core and the Pro's quad). But the Alienware laptops beat both, and are cheaper too.

I just don't see the point of a gaming laptop. With a 17" screen you'll have to put the thing on a desk anyway. I use a laptop as a bridge device to type bullshit like this. I don't want one for gaming.

That's why laptops like these are usually called "desktop replacements", since they're like desktops, but are less hassle to, say, bring to a friend's house.
But what Razer's trying to do with this is make a 17" that avoids this classification by making it the thinnest gaming laptop available.

I guess if you are a gamer who needs portability (maybe because you travel a lot), this could be an option.

You pay premium for portability and its touchpad.

Good god, that thing will sell, at most, 5 units.

NO ONE would spend that much money. If they did, chances are they have no idea how to even use it.
people actually buy those things. seriously. i previously worked for Dell (well, outsourced anyway), and i can remember having to troubleshoot a lot of 3-5yo gamer laptop models (some are Alienware, i think) with serious pricetags (IIRC, there's one that fetched around $5000), and all were TERRIBLE when it came to cooling. but some of those laptops have awesome shapes/cases, and their specs back then were pretty good, even bleeding edge. and all were WoW gamers. yes. we actually had to build a support team to deal specifically with WoW-related problems.

heck, i have sold a $1500 top of the line laptop for a client who's only problem was bad graphics card, which could've been replaced by warranty. the kid just said "no, it'll take too long" so i said "why don't you get a new one then?" and the kid said okay, put the phone down for a few minutes, and then came back with his dad's credit card. insta-buy.

so yes, people spend money for ridiculous gaming rigs like that. they have money to throw around, i guess.

Yes people, desktop parts are cheaper than laptop parts and more powerful... Fucking Duh™. You can take pretty much any prebuilt gaming laptop and custom-build a gaming desktop for less money. Again, Fucking Duh™.

But yeah, I don't see the market for this thing.

God I'm glad at least someone actually knew that.

It'd be nice if not for the price.

I'd use it if it was a gift, but there's no way I'm going to spend nearly $3k on a laptop when I could have a desktop.

Never been to a LAN party, but I have seen cases with carrying handles and specific shapes to make moving them for LAN parties easy.
I never said you needed a laptop for that, I'm just saying that PC gamers do indeed go outside. Sometimes.

I thought LAN parties was still inside a room?

idk desktops are cheaper but i like the idea of the lcd keyboard with button config for different games plus making scripts for games not supported, i think the team should sell the tech or make just keyboards for PC desktops and even other manufactures (hp, dell, alienware, ect) but u have to pay more for that custom order thats my 2 cents

Portability and functionality. Not to mention flexibility. Do I need to explain this?

I plan on snagging me up a $1200 laptop that actually sits just below this laptop in power, and graphics capability. Why? Because this specific laptop is using some last year GFX card, instead of going all out. For $2800 you definitely can squeeze an upgrade. But still, ~3k.. I can get a laptop and all those goodies, an Xbox 360, 2-3 monitors, a used car and have enough to pay for the first month's insurance...

Are you planning on going Xzibit on that used car? Nothing like pimping your used ride with a 360 and a couple monitors.

Honestly, if I actually want to shed some serious cash on a gaming system, I'd either get a console like the PS3 or get a desktop computer.

Laptops will run out of steam one day, and the only upgradeable parts are the RAM, HDD and OS. Desktops can be upgraded to infinity and beyond and pack way more power.

QFT.
For half that price you will have a better desktop, just without the name Razer on it.

When Alienware products are less overpriced than your product, you really need to rethink your pricing.
