Is CHD supposed to load much faster than PBP or are they comparable?
I haven't been able to notice any difference between them, however, converting to .chd using chdman is easier when you're converting multitrack/bins.

Only problem is if they're using cdda audio which I haven't been able to figure out yet.

Wich game are you trying to boot? So far i'm able to play Symphony of the Night and Ridge Racer Type IV

They added CHD support too so try to convert it to that format
I've been trying to boot MGS with the BIOS in the system folder, the .bin and .cue in the same folder as well. Is there something that I missed?

From the article:
NOTE: When talking about 3DS in this article, we actually mean the New 3DS. Don’t expect old 3DS to be able to emulate many games at fullspeed.

Don't get your hopes up, O3DS owners. They also recommend using CHD if you want the full potential from this.

Have you confirmed that the bioses matches the md5 checksum over at the retroarch pages and that you've named them exactly the same. I believe upper and lower case matters too.

Also you should probably double check that bioses are mapped to the system directory under the directories submenu of settings.

I would say any ps1 game at all running full speed on o3dd is a reason to celebrate. Obviously, you won't be running the most 3d intensive ones, but I don't even know if the n3ds will be able to...

Running Resident Evil 2 at fullspeed on N3DS is all I could have asked for. Games like 40 Winks and Silent Hill are still pretty iffy in terms of performance though

And the .cue is referencing the exact name of the .bin? That is, you haven't changed the name of the files without editing the .cue file with notepad or whatever?

Is your image a redump image? If unsure you can check against the redump.org. is it the pal or ntsc version? Maybe there's anti piracy in it.
It has "USA" in the filename and in the contents of the disc, so i would guess that it's NTSC. Downloaded a .cue from there (modified for the filename), tried to start it up, no luck. Anything else? What about the .PBP method?

Yeah you could try the .pbp or .chd method. Remember to set compression to 1 in options for psx2pbp

only tested gunners heaven, it's a 2d game but still runs only with 30 fps. I will try to convert to chd. I think retroarch doesn't use my bios also, but not sure about that. name, md5 matches.

edit: chd did the trick, now it runs with 57-60 fps.

Is the core saving the game for you?

I have to use savestates because it doesn't save, on SotN at least.

Maybe is it because i'm not using a bios?

I have SotN and FF8 in PBPs, both run much better now but they are also crashing with arm 11 exceptions frequently. I've used these exact same files extensively with Switch retroarch and they were fine there. Wondering if anyone is having a better time with these titles, or conversely are finding other games to crash on. I'm using the .3dsx build if that makes any difference.

@SylverReZ if you could find a v5 DS ML you would have the best of both worlds since the v5 units had the same backlight brightness levels as the DS Lite unlockable with flashme

A woman with no arms and no legs was sitting on a beach. A man comes along and the woman says, "I've never been hugged before." So the man feels bad and hugs her. She says "Well i've also never been kissed before." So he gives her a kiss on the cheek. She says "Well I've also never been fucked before." So the man picks her up, and throws her in the ocean and says "Now you're fucked."

anyways, we need to re-normalize physical media

if i didn't want my games to be permanent, then i'd rent them

Agreed, that why I try to buy all my games on disc, Xbox anyways. Switch games (which I pirate tbh) don't matter much, I stay offline 24/7 anyways.

@BakerMan - you can still "own" digital media, arguably easier and better than physical since you can make copies and backups, as much as you like.

    The issue is DRM

  • cearp @ cearp:
You can buy drm free games / music / ebooks, and if you keep backups of your data (like documents and family photos etc), then you shouldn't lose the game. but with a disk, your toddler could put it in the toaster and there goes your $60

    :rofl2:
  • cearp @ cearp:
still, I agree physical media is nice to have. just pointing out the issue is drm

i like physical media because it actually feels like you own it. thats why i plan on burning music to cds

It's nice to not have to have a lot of physical things though, saves space

@rqkaiju2, Physical media is a great source for archiving your data, none of that cloud storage shiz.
