I see you said that only after you heard the "he's alive and well" posts.
if you had no way of knowing for sure wouldn't you have some doubt in your mind?
Don't be so ignorant he could die at any second from any number of causes and we wouldn't know for sure until someone reputable states it, a big tsunami hits and the chances of him dying are multiplied.

Let me give you an example
Someone says "Hey, *insert random japanese guy's name here* died in the tsunami" you wouldn't doubt for a second that they were lying.
If someone says "hey the creator of pokemon died in the tsunami" you instantly start to think it's a lie. Even then the first and second guy have the same chance of dying.

/rant.

EDIT: you'd expect someone to have the decency to not make such a vicious rumour but I guess some people are just total bastards.
