Rumor: Nintendo is giving out dev-kits for new handheld

it is french but what they basically are saying is that Developers have got new dev-kits from Nintendo for a new handheld. This new handheld has a accelerometer built in otherwise details are scarce.

It is known that gamekult.com has ties with the french handheld developing scene.

Wouldn't be a stretch. The DS is ending its lifespan sometime this year and devs should be cracking on working on a new console soon.

If the handheld is due this year then devs should have got it last year.

That is if Nintendo has learnt its lesson, we all know that most early Wii/DS games had poorly implemented features or were messes due to a lack of dev time.

To increase DS sales and act as a stop gap before they announced a proper follow up and also test the waters to see if people took to other features. It needed the ram for the net browser.

To test the waters....yeah... So if that's true (which I secretly suspect) then it clearly shows what Nintendo's attitude is. Telling people about third or fourth pillars is one thing, but if in the end they screw their fans by releasing a new system within a year or so, that's just plain filthy ignorance. I hope Nintendo will prove me wrong though.

The real reason Ninty released the DSi: They wanted to make even more money by making people think it was a big improvement on the old DS (which it isn't)

A new Ninty handheld? I'm not buying...I've got a hacked PSP now and the DS lost its touch for me, the new one sounds like "Wii Portable" so it'll be filled with crappy games shoehorning in the accelerometer, though I can see it being used well in platformers or puzzlers (tilting screen tilts game world)

For all of you angry DSi buyers out there, you should have known that the DSi wasn't the TRUE successor to the DS. And if you didn't know that then I suggest doing some more research before buying products.

I knew full well that the DSi probably would be ditched for the "DS2", but the DS2 probably won't be hacked right away unlike the DSi(by hacked I mean flashcarts included).

It is true that the DS has lost his charm. It was the hottest game console one could have...... THREE years ago.

A few months back I played some games on a friend's Iphone and MY GOD is that machine better than I could have imagined. With its big touch screen and tilt controls and above all...GOOD GAMES with fresh new ideas... Playing my DS after that was never as before.

The DS is dead and Nintendo needs to come up with some very smart ideas, otherwise it's back to the Gamecube days for them.

Other thing: If Ninty announce a new handheld it had better have higher res screens and better 3D graphics, y'know like the PSP does (although maybe not quite as good...the Wii only produces graphics slightly better than the PSP which is almost on par with PS2)

the DSI was like The iPod Touch 3rd. not a TRUE successor but a great update

i expect the new console to be out sometime in 2012-2013. not gettin rid off my DSi anytime soon! still Has packs of new games coming out!
btw, it would seem silly that they'd announce a new console at the media summit before the DSi XL even came out in the US

Sounds interesting (The accelerometer)...Hopefully Nintendo doesn't pull an Apple move and make most input through the touchscreen (Most because iPhones have a mic, camera, and the home button). Then again, for all we know, it might not even have a touchscreen (It most likely will...That is, if Nintendo wants backwards compatibility with the DS).

Different companies are in a batlle versus the iphone...
Imo they dont buy a iphone to use for calls
But for the fantastic apps
