Hacking Running Hack Files Without SD

Okay you know how after hacking your wii all the Homebrew apps, basically everything is written onto the mounted SD card?
Well I've kinda grown the need for another SD card and was wondering if instead of buying another I could put ALLLL of those files into the HDD I use for backups intead of buying another SD?
In other words can I run everything from the USB itself instead of needing the SD card at all?

You need an SD to install HBC, but I think you can configure HBC to write to the HDD.

you can run apps from the hard drive, just press 2 (or maybe 1?) in the homebrew channel and choose USB, just make sure you have the apps folder on your USB drive, and make sure your drive is FAT32. Of course, not all apps support reading from the USB drive, so you may just want to keep an SD card for any of those problem apps, but other than that, you should be fine.
