SEGA reveals the Mega Drive Mini 2, will feature SEGA CD games

A handful of years ago, SEGA released a miniaturized version of its classic Mega Drive, packing in some fan-favorite games that gamers loved from that era of gaming. Three years later, and they're ready to improve upon that, by releasing the Mega Drive Mini 2. Stylized just like the second variant of the Mega Drive, the mini version will offer Sega CD games as well. The throwback console was revealed during a livestream from Sega of Japan, and has no western release confirmed for now. It'll release on October 27th, and will retail for about $75 (¥9,980). The confirmed games are as follows:

Silpheed (SEGA CD)
Shining Force CD (SEGA CD)
Mansion of Hidden Souls (SEGA CD)
Sonic CD (SEGA CD)
Popful Mail (SEGA CD)
Virtua Racing (Mega Drive)
Bonanza Bros (Mega Drive)
Shining in the Darkness (Mega Drive)
Thunder Force IV (Mega Drive)
Magical Taruto (Mega Drive)
Fantasy Zone (new Mega Drive release)

Notable among these titles is Fantasy Zone, which never actually released for the Mega Drive itself. According to the livestream, this version of the game is a brand new port, and is based on Super Fantasy Zone, which did release on the Mega Drive in 1992.

The old versions I'm thinking of are the original releases... the only ones that matter... and are the CORRECT 4:3 aspect ratio.

Add to that the fact that we played them using CRT Monitors/TVs and we actually know what Sonic is supposed to look like behind waterfalls. I would have been impressed if they had gone in and patched in real transparency effects.

would be great if they would offer the game snatcher in the future

no snatcher and no lunars are the reason for me to not buy it.
if there is enough space on it to replace the games contained with these 3, then i might consider buying it

The MMC team had problems and the TG16 mini hack never saw public release (there was some behind the scenes infighting, a major dev quit later on, covid hit shortly after and they lost interest). Hopefully Team Hakchii can end up supporting this mini.

Lunar and the sequel was released for Playstation and Sega Saturn as a single game as Lunar: Silver Star Story Complete, strangely the Sega Saturn version is better but even then the Playstation version is a good option to play the game.

Lunar: Silver Star Story Complete is just a remake of the first Lunar.
And its sequesl got remade as Lunar 2: Eternal Blue Complete.
And i know i can play them in various forms even on an SNES Classic!
But they together with are some of the most iconic games on the SegaCD and should have been on there!

So if there will a way to put them on it without external USB addons i might consider buying it.
