Looking for guidance

I recently tried to use my Official Nintendo GCN Controller Adapter with my stock, up to date Switch and no GCN controller inputs were recognized in either the Switch controller settings menu or when Smash Ultimate was running.

Important notes
*My GCN adapter works. I used it same day with my WiiU to play GCN games with Nintendont
*I used the official Switch dock
*I tried all USB ports on the dock
*I used the official power cable for the dock
*I tried Wavebird and wired controllers
*Smash is up to date
*3rd party USB controllers for Switch work

What have I missed?
