Hi, so my WoW account got hacked, spent the past 2 hours fighting the hacker for my account back (I'm winning), but I need something to search for and kill whatever it is that was helping the thieving bastards.

Help?

spybot or malware bytes are both good programs to run if you think you're infected with something. You can boot your machine in safe mode if you're having trouble getting rid of it. However if it's a program specifically designed to target WoW you may have a harder time of it.

Good free programs:

Malware Bytes is the best for on-demand scanning and as a backup for regular AV.

Avast is a good regular AV.

Threatfire is a behavior monitor that looks for suspicious activity and blocks it from happening, and is designed to be used along with a regular av.

I would get rid of it with malwarebytes then instal the other two to prevent reinfection.

Thanks for the help guys, at the moment I already have Avast and that's doing a full scan now, found 2 trojans, no idea how they got there, I also downloaded Malwarebytes (free version) that found lots of adware and 2 trojans called Vundo (I think that might have been my culprit).

What no one mentioned yet is that if your system is infected really badly you have no choice but to save your data and reformat. That is the single only way of being 99% sure that your pc is clean afterwards.

It's not nice, but the truth.
