Sources claim Konami is working on a Metal Gear Solid 3 remake, new Silent Hill, Castlevania reboot

Konami was once one of the most beloved video game publishers, home to blockbuster franchises like Castlevania, Metal Gear, and Silent Hill. In recent years, however, the company has been content to sit on its IPs while raking in cash through casino and mobile games. Losing Hideo Kojima following the release of Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, along with the dramatic removal of PT from the PlayStation Store as well as the cancellation of the working title Silent Hills was yet another disappointment to fans. The idea that Konami would one day return to form has been a fantasy of many for years, but for once, there might be a little substance to the idea.

Video Games Chronicle is no stranger to reporting on rumors, having a solid track record of leaking insider information and just as much of a reputation for news that went absolutely nowhere. In the past, they've accurately reported on the existence of what would become Super Mario 3D All-Stars months before it was revealed, were among the first to leak that Horizon Forbidden West would be delayed, but were also highly certain of both The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess and Wind Waker HD both coming to the Nintendo Switch prior to the end of 2021, which does not appear to be the case.

Now, VGC has come forward, saying it has multiple insider, anonymous sources claiming that Konami has big plans for the future. These claims include the existence of a brand new Castlevania title, which would be a "reimagining" of the series. Another source says that a remake of a Metal Gear Solid game is in the works, though it will not involve studio Bluepoint Games, nor will it be the first entry as other rumors have stated. Rather, the project is supposedly a remake of Metal Gear Solid 3, with Virtuos, the team behind the Nintendo Switch versions of Dark Souls Remastered, The Outer Worlds, and The BioShock Collection in charge. VGC also believes that a more general remaster of the original Metal Gear Solid games is in the works for modern consoles. similar to 2011's Metal Gear Solid HD Collection.

Following up on a report VGC made at the start of the year, there's also a new Silent Hill game in the works--in fact, there are "multiple" ones in development. Supposedly one of the titles is being made by "a prominent Japanese developer", though they've also claimed that The Medium developers Bloober Team could also possibly be working on another Silent Hill game as well.

vania is what I'm hoping. I loved lords of shadow. I pirated it on the 360, and it's one of the few games I beat. I bought the gba collection on the switch, and I plan to go through those games again. :D

Honestly, MGS3 makes the most sense to remake, imo. It has a lot more appeal than MGS1, even if I like the latter far more. I think it's got more going for it to draw people into the franchise.

I really hope this is one of the times where VGC is right. I'm hesitant to think Konami can make a good Castlevania, but I am so down for a slightly modernized version of MGS1.

Ohhhhh.. I hope that it is going to be reality because I want Castlevania so badly. :) Never liked Metal Gear because I am not into reality war at all. I am into monsters games. And.. Never played Silent Hill but it is like Resident Evil which I loved. I would like to see it too.

We are long overdue for new Silent Hill. Konami have done a horrible job of handling that franchise in recent years. They better have something for it coming soon.

No Hideo Kojima, no Metal Gear.
No Team Silent, No Silent Hill.
No Koji Igarashi, No Castlevania.

Simple as that.

Even if the rumors are true, New games or remakes, those games are going to fail and fail badly with Konami in charge without the original creators.

You doubt, but they'll have their best monkeys working on it.

Yeah they fucked hard by getting rid of all their good staff.
Team Silent is for sure the one which hit them the most.

Kojima's departure is still yet to be seen, as it's pretty recent.
And Igarashi, well there hasn't been a Castlevania for a long time, so same as with Kojima's

I will gladly see what they have in store for Silent Hill, but after seeing the abomination Downpour was, I hold my hopes as high as blood tainting my shit.

If rumors are true that Bloober Team (creators of The Medium) are making the new Silent Hill I'd be interested. Although the gameplay was lacking in that game but everything else was excellent.

It was also year 1999 when they made silent hill.... Fast forward to 2022 and I'm pretty sure a survival horror video game with that story line would be pretty awesome. Im a huge fan of the resident evil movies and games.
Can't wait to see silent hill!

I... Don't know how to feel about this. I think Silent Hill fans deserve something good, and remaking MGS3 is a good idea, assuming they don't fuck it up too much...

Ah well. It's Konami. I'm keeping my expectations in check, to say the least. Hopefully it won't be garbage, assuming it's even true, and maybe it'll be good. Maybe.

they need to have a strong line up on the launch titles too. I think they should move metroid prime 4 to the next console because by now it has been quite a while and there's no release date scheduled yet

well as far as metroid prime 4 is concerned, the next system probably is similar enough to the current gen they can probably easily just slap it onto a next gen cart and call it good :P
