Earlier this morning, Square Enix announced that Yosuke Matsuda, who has been president of the company since April 2013, will be stepping down from his position, with company director Takashi Kiryu taking his place. The document, titled "Notification of Changes in the Representative Director of the Company and a Consolidated Subsidiary", details the former position history of the new president, as well as confirming that the finalized approval will take place at the 43rd Annual Shareholders' Meeting in June 2023.
Yosuke Matsuda has been a relatively prominent figure in the video game industry since his presidency began 10 years ago, even having a cameo in Nier:Automata as an extra boss. More recently, however, he has been the driving force behind the company's commitment to creating non-fungible tokens based on Square Enix properties, a decision that, while heavily criticized, was further re-affirmed by him at the beginning of 2023 in the company's New Year's Day letter.
