I want to, but sadly i don't think my crappy 256K DSL connection would be able to play SSBB on it.
But as soon as i get a copy i will try my best, so if you think 256K is enough to play, then add me.
But i dought it

Don't worry, it's more then enough.

I bet even a 56k person could play.

The amount of data sent per second for a game like this isn't a whole lot.

All the packets have to contain is. (Location)(Current button press)(And maybe a few other things.)

Not a whole lot of data.

How would the ranking system work?Â
huh.gif
well, if anyone has any suggestions about that, please say so.

a few systems I can think of...

whenever two people do a match, they can come here and report who won and who lost. you get a certain amount of points for beating a person of certain ranks (like, if you beat admiral as a private, you will get a ton of points, but if you beat another private, you would get only a few points.) and whoever lost will lose points (so you can rank down.)

If you fall into private rank, you have to get a certain amount of points to rank up.

I can't think of anything that can be gained for being a higher rank, besides having tournaments that are only for people of certain ranks or higher. (if anyone has any idea on "rewards" for higher ranked people, say so)

I can only assume you're talking SSBX until Brawl (US Version) comes out?

Whatever, I'm in

IMO let's make the ranking system kinda like wow too (slightly altered for simplicity). Up to Coperal is just a base number of games played vs the temp team. At corperal, that when you start to get points per win, increasing exponentially according to your opponent's rank. (Theoretical model here)
title - (points you get if you defeat one) (percent decay per month?) (maximum)
0. Grand Marshal (25 points) (25%) (1)
1: Marshal (18 points) (15%) (3)
2: Lieutenant (15 points) (10%) (7)
3: Admiral (12 points) (7%)
4: Sergeant Major (9 points) (5%)
5: First Sergeant (7 points) (4%)
6: Master Sergeant (5 points) (3%)
7: Sergeant (3 points) (3%)
8: Corporal (2 points) (0%)
9: Private (1 point) (0%)
10: Recruit (1 point) (0%)

With this model, you can't just get #1 and stay there for very long (similar to how Ken is in the San Diego rankings

). Of course it is going to be needing of tweaking along the way, but it shouldn't be hard to upload a formula like this to someone's site as a spreadsheet

I'm in!
This sounds great. Hope it works out.

I think most of us will be playing with the NTSC-U version in the future... assuming it works for PAL users. We should probably all switch over to that vers. once it's out. What do you guys think?

By the way, you can go ahead and put me down for top-tier ranking. LOL. Just Kidding. let the smack talk begin!

@SylverReZ if you could find a v5 DS ML you would have the best of both worlds since the v5 units had the same backlight brightness levels as the DS Lite unlockable with flashme

A woman with no arms and no legs was sitting on a beach. A man comes along and the woman says, "I've never been hugged before." So the man feels bad and hugs her. She says "Well i've also never been kissed before." So he gives her a kiss on the cheek. She says "Well I've also never been fucked before." So the man picks her up, and throws her in the ocean and says "Now you're fucked."

anyways, we need to re-normalize physical media

if i didn't want my games to be permanent, then i'd rent them

Agreed, that why I try to buy all my games on disc, Xbox anyways. Switch games (which I pirate tbh) don't matter much, I stay offline 24/7 anyways.

@BakerMan - you can still "own" digital media, arguably easier and better than physical since you can make copies and backups, as much as you like.

    The issue is DRM
  • cearp @ cearp:
You can buy drm free games / music / ebooks, and if you keep backups of your data (like documents and family photos etc), then you shouldn't lose the game. but with a disk, your toddler could put it in the toaster and there goes your $60

    :rofl2:
  • cearp @ cearp:
still, I agree physical media is nice to have. just pointing out the issue is drm
  • rqkaiju2 @ rqkaiju2:
i like physical media because it actually feels like you own it. thats why i plan on burning music to cds
  • cearp @ cearp:
It's nice to not have to have a lot of physical things though, saves space

Nor clothes 🤮 . Saves on time, soap, water and money having to wash them. :D
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
@rqkaiju2, Physical media is a great source for archiving your data, none of that cloud storage shiz.
