The FCC has voted to restore net neutrality, reversing ruling from 2017

fcc.png

In 2017, the United States Federal Communications Commission (FCC) repealed net neutrality. At the time, it was a major controversy between internet service providers and the public, as getting rid of net neutrality gave businesses the ability to alter and throttle customers' internet speed depending on the websites they visited. Years later, under a new administration, the FCC has reinstated net neutrality, after a 3-2 vote. This change allows for the FCC to step in, oversee, and ensure that internet providers are offering an "open internet experience" to broadband consumers.

Reacting to the ruling, David Greer, Director of Fight for the Future, a nonprofit organization that campaigned heavily for net neutrality, said the following,

Telecom giants like AT&T and Comcast have spent millions on lobbying and used every dirty trick in the book to try to prevent the return of net neutrality. But they keep losing. Because people from across the political spectrum overwhelmingly agree they don’t want their phone company to dictate how they use the internet, or screw them over more than they already do.

Meanwhile, Brendan Carr, a commissioner of the FCC who voted against net neutrality had an opposing view to the decision, stating,

My concern is that there's no reason for the government to go down this path of granting itself more powers to second guess all the decisions about the internet functions. So my worry is that it's a power grab without any need or justification, and it's very difficult to predict the harms that could ultimately flow from that

It's 1876 and 2000 all over again. Weird that nobody was indicted back then. People act like this is the first time alternate slate of electors have been proposed in all of election history.

Nobody was indicted for election interference even though there were clear cut cases for it.
Whataboutism doesn't mean a crime wasn't committed. Also, you just agree that what the modern Republican Party is doing, is election interference.

Plus you made the claim, I didn't.
Tell me you didn't read the article without telling me you didn't read the article. It's right there in the first few paragraphs. I even highlighted the pertinent parts for you. Once again, I'm not here to hold your hand, especially when I do, you refuse to even read.

I didn't agree to anything. Just pointing out that suddenly Republicans are getting indicted for the very same things that Democrats have done for 140 years. I know, this is (D)ifferent, but you can't explain how without coming off as hypocritical.

So he met an agent and that is suddenly proof he carried out the assassination because of that? You seem the logical fallacy here? We already know that he was a fan of the communist ideals but how does that leap back to the democrats/leftist/communists killed JFK, Lincoln and tried to kill Reagan?

Then again, I will not continue this topic now since its outside the political forum. I just want proper proof than just for JFK.

Where did I say direct? The left are the ones crying about our precious democracy. What they are really crying about are the systems of that control us.
I have no idea what the fuck you're on about at this point. If you actually took issue with the amount of power the FCC wields, you would've been just as outraged about net neutrality's repeal as you are about its reinstatement.

Stop piss-moaning and groaning about oligarchs being held accountable for their criminal actions. That's what needs to happen more often if this nation is ever gonna make real progress.

Yeah, that's their biggest issues while people are dying from being forced by the government to take their drugs. Keep taking your boosters, bootlicker.
Who's being forced to take drugs? Vaccine conspiracy theorists are free to Darwin award themselves now just as they have been for the last one hundred plus years. Hell, that's how Biden won Georgia. Your crazy doesn't need to be everybody else's problem.

Regardless, isn't democracy where the Congress, who we elect, makes laws instead of unelected bureaucrats? Explain how bypassing Congress is saving democracy. I dare you, but everybody here knows you won't. Maybe your butt buddy who will be here any minute can defend it.
How did this thread turn into political shit? I think I was finally banned from that part of the site, at my own request, and I'm still seeing shit like this. Newsflash for all you kiddies that are too young to know any better: The USA is not a pure democracy. It never was. It's a republic, with democratically elected officials. There's a big difference there. Frankly, it's probably much better in the long run, than a pure democracy, since a pure democracy would end up being mob rule... and the mob is totally fucking insane right now.

You are clearly ignoring that the modern parties aren't the same as the past ones. Just like how you ignoring modern examples of Republicans trying subvert democracy, just so you can continue this nonsense.

I answered one of your questions and even sourced materials, which nobody else on this forum ever does when they step up and try to debate me. Tell me, how much hand holding do you need, because I'm gonna have to start charging for my time help you out.

I was outraged when it was implemented during Obama's reign of error when people like you were celebrating bypassing Congress. Why would I be outraged at a mistake being corrected during Trump's years?

Cool, let's start with Big Pharma and move to military industrial complex, the intelligence agencies and the propaganda media. This is how people know you aren't serious because you never mention these at all.

My daughter and son in law were forced to take it or be kicked out of the military. And now it's been proven that the jab causes young men to develop myocarditis and affects women's cycle affecting pregnancies. And since I'm prior military, I can guarantee that I'm more vaccinated than you are. You have no idea what you are talking about. You never source anything you ever say. All you do is attack my every comment with tween girl emotion.

I'm not sure why people keep saying that I mentioned we are a pure democracy, but I agree with everything you've said here.

You put out a unhinged statement. If you can't debate, take your statement back. I should ask someone to charge you for putting this useless data on the temps, and you have to pay every person ever reading it for wasting their data to download it.

Just wait til november, change in government will mean ditching net neutrality all over again

100% this. The president determines majority control of regulatory agencies like the FCC. The two parties are NOT the same. if the Republicans win, we get someone like Aijit Pai again and lose all of the good things like this revival of net neutrality, the broadband price disclosure/nutrition facts, ending non-compete clauses which prevent workers from quitting shitty jobs, and much much more.

Yes, I'd like the Biden administration to be doing more than they are to improve society, but baby steps are so much better that the republican alternative, which is letting corporations do whatever they want with no limitations or recourse. Plus every small change the Biden administration makes is being fought tooth and nail by the republicans and corruption within the democratic party, and the president's power is constitutionally more limited than most people realize.

It's ironic that comments get deleted for being political when the story is about the FCC creating rules out of thin air. Do the mods not understand what the FCC is, who works there, how they get their jobs and who pays their salaries? This is a political story published on the wrong part of the site.

Yet, advocating for violence against a minority is acceptable behavior.
